New flight for New York
Business travel boost as Delta lands in Glasgow
Delta Air Lines will double its Scottish network in summer 2017 when it begins flying between Glasgow and the Big Apple. The service, which will begin on 26 May 2017, will be the only non-stop flight between Glasgow and New York-JFK and will operate daily throughout the summer. The flight is operated in conjunction with
partners Virgin Atlantic Airways and this new service adds to Virgin’s seasonal service from Glasgow to Orlando. The scheduled flights will be DL266 departing from Glasgow at 1pm and arriving into New York at 3.40pm, and DL466 from New York JFK leaving at 11.45pm and arriving in Glasgow at 11.25am, the next day. “The arrival of Delta Air Lines in Glasgow
is fantastic news for Scotland and we really can not underestimate the significance of this announcement,” said Amanda McMillan, Chief Executive of AGS Airports Ltd and Managing Director of Glasgow Airport. “Routes such as this enable Scotland to maintain and increase its global competitiveness. Not only will it play a major role in supporting our growing tourism industry, it will provide Scottish businesses with yet another direct link to what is the world’s largest economy.’’
Willow‘s new venue An old favourite reopens in time for tea
One of Glasgow’s most famous meeting places has re-opened for tea. The Willow Tearooms had to relocate as their former premises on Sauchiehall Street are being refurbished over the next two years. The new venue is Watt Brothers department store where a whole floor of the shop has been restored and transformed. Many of the third floor’s original features have been restored to their former glory, including the original wooden floors, ceiling design and cornicing. Anne Mulhern started the Willow Tea Rooms in 1983 to continue the legacy of Miss Kate Cranston, who set up tearooms in the city in the 19th century.
BHS site’s £75m development
The former BHS store on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow has been earmarked for a £75million redevelopment. In total, the plans cover
an area of 240,000 sq ft, and include replacing the current 1969-built brown brick building with “Grade A and design-style offices”. The development will
extend onto Renfield Street and Bath Street as well as neighbouring properties recently acquired by the company behind the scheme. The initial plans have been submitted to the local authority, in a bid to develop a 12-storey scheme which is claimed will transform the area around Sauchiehall Street.
