receive payouts at the 2-day Classic event. An overall Team of the Year is declared at the end of the season. This is based upon the total weight of each teams’ best 5 events. There is also an end-of-year Big Fish recognition award to the team that caught the largest fish during the regular season. The Classic is the biggest money event with awards of $1200, $900, $600 and $300 to the top 4 teams. Did I mention only bass are


counted in the weigh in process, even though each team catches the odd pike, walleye and musky on game day? For those of you who don’t usually fish for bass, here in Ontario there are two different species that are pursued for sport, the largemouth and smallmouth bass. Neither of these species are to be confused with the ubiquitous rock bass, or rock perch, that resides in almost every body of water in Ontario. Along with the sunfish, it is probably the first fish many of us caught when we were first introduced to fishing as youngsters. In Eastern Ontario, the bass


season generally opens on the 3rd

the Ottawa River. The team of Young/ Benson were victorious again, with a total weight of 15.42 lbs. The team of McPhee and McPhee was a close 2nd with a total weight of 15.35 lbs.
