March 31-April 2 Heroes


Turtle Creek Chorale salutes the heroes in our lives and our commu- nities—those that have always been there, those that have changed the world and those that make a difference. For the first half, TCC will present musical “awards” to the people and organizations that have made our community what it is today including Bruce Woodfeatur- ing a performance by the Bruce Wood Dance Project. March 31-April 3 Spring Dance Concert


The Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the ArtsDivision of Dance Concert features the world premiere of a newly envisioned version of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite (1945), created by noted Mexican choreographers Claudia Lavista and Victor Manuel Ruiz, artistic directors of the acclaimed Delfos Danza Contemporanea in Mazatlán. Also featured will be Martha Graham’s masterpiece Appalachian Spring (1944), set to Aaron Copland’s original score. In addition, the ensemble will perform Tchaikovsky’s Pas de Deux by George Balanchine, an eight-minute display of ballet bravura and technique set to music that the composer belatedly created for Act III of Swan Lake; the music was discovered in the Bolshoi Theater archives in 1953. Meadows dancers also present Firebird and Appalachian Spring at the Meadows at the Winspear annual gala concert on May 11, 2016 this time with the live accompaniment by the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, which performs the world premiere of a brand new orchestration of Appalachian Spring created under the direction of the Copland Fund for Music.
