IN THE SPOTLIGHT
THE SIMPLE PHILOSOPHY OF LOAD PLANNING
To be honest, I sometimes envy passenger airlines. They don’t have to find out the weight and size of each individual passenger, or understand their centre of gravity, or have to try and locate their lifting and mooring points!
Passengers board the plane themselves, find their own seats, and fasten their own seatbelts. Mind you, there are always a handful of passengers who behave disgracefully during a flight so maybe pieces of cargo that need to be carefully guided on every step of their journey are not so difficult, after all.
Of course, it’s a completely different thing to transport non- standard and unique cargo, which is the main business of Volga-Dnepr Airlines. During
the load planning process, there are many different aspects that have to be taken into consideration and dealt with: to determine if the cargo is loadable, whether the entire load can be accommodated in the cargo cabin, if it’s possible to secure the cargo during transportation, are there any special requirements for the transportation to ensure the cargo is not damaged or destroyed during the flight due to changing environmental conditions …. and so on.
