LMBA VOTED INTO LIMBO AGAIN!
The latest report from our very successful Bowls team… T
o mark the close of the outdoor Summer Season, the LMBA
invited neighboring Provinces to enjoy a full day of bowling in friendly rivalry on President’s Gala Day, 18th September. At short notice, four Provinces - Berkshire, Buckinghamshire (2 triples), Hertfordshire and Middlesex - took up the challenge against five LMBA triples. After a great day of competition, LMBA took the first three places with Berkshire, managing fourth place to prevent an LMBA whitewash. The winners – W. Bros Jim Ashton, Tony Hammell and Lewis Epstein (a mere 92 yrs young!) were presented with the LIMBO “Blue Diamond” trophy plus Olympic-style medals. As a direct result of our first
“LIMBO” (London Inter Masonic Bowls Occasion), £200 will be donated equally to the Downs Syndrome, Crones Disease and Cherry Lodge charities. The LMBA‘s Almoner, W. Bro Bernie Jacobs, has a grandchild with Downs Syndrome
and Jackie, the partner of LMBA President, W. Bro Ian Keech, SLGR, supports Cherry Lodge, which provides aftercare for cancer sufferers. LIMBO proved so successful that the visitors have asked LMBA to stage another LIMBO as a climax to the Indoor Season. This will take place on March 22nd 2015, when it is hoped even more Provinces will seek to wrest the “Blue Diamond” trophy from LMBA’s grasp. At a Special General Meeting of
LMBA, held on 12th November, Bro. Keech was formally invested with his ‘President’s Collar’ by outgoing President, W. Bro John Laurence, SLGR. It was pleasing to report that the LMBA had enjoyed its most successful outdoor playing season for some time. Plans for the future were discussed and it is anticipated that at least two luncheon /dinner functions will be held in 2015, to which all Metropolitan Masons will be welcomed, including those who wish to be coached into this healthy and
enjoyable pastime. Details will be
announced as soon as possible. Who knows, we might even persuade the MetGM to resume his playing career! After lunch LMBA had an
inglorious start to their winter (indoor) programme, playing against Bucks MBA and Herts BC. Not only did Bucks win comfortably by 19 shots, but the highest scoring triple was from the Herts BC, who received their prize with much glee. Even
worse, the six bottles of relatively expensive red wine intended as raffle prizes had been uncorked in error by the caterers and placed on the dinner tables and were gratefully drunk avidly by the bowlers, who seemed unconcerned at the absence of the traditional raffle! Happy Bowling!
