When we evaluate the outlook for the airfreight market, we begin on the basis that the next three years will not show any noticeable growth in the world economy and global trade, and, as a consequence, the flow of airfreight. Based on this assumption, the shareholders and managers of Volga- Dnepr are developing a strategy to protect and develop our Group businesses over the challenging years ahead that will be based on the development of the Group’s personnel, fleet, and, of course, working hard to identify and meet our customers’ requirements. Our strategy, as before, is built on the concept of a ‘cargo supermarket’ airfreight logistics services using dedicated cargo aircraft that offer maximum diversification in terms of lift capability, and enable us to provide our customers with the best and most cost efficient solution every time they work with us.


CORPORATE CULTURE AND LONG-TERM STRATEGY


The ethos behind Volga-Dnepr’s global cargo supermarket is simple: combining the best personnel in the industry, the best freight aircraft, a flexible business model for the benefit of customers, as well as the best corporate culture and a mission that clearly explains our long-term strategy and commitment to all of our customers, partners and company employees.


In the last few years the airfreight industry has been affected by the global economic crisis and this has resulted in a reduction in demand, further exacerbated by a reduction in yield due to the oversupply of capacity by passenger aircraft offering lower deck cargo space. However, it would be extremely premature to forecast that the time for airlines engaged only in the carriage of freight has passed. In fact, it is quite the opposite. I am convinced that humanity’s greatest invention - the division,


specialisation and cooperation of labour – continues to rule the world economy and the logistics industry. As long as people want and need to share the results of their labour in order to generate prosperity, employment and growth opportunities, and consumers and customers become more expectant and demanding, then the global community will need to be served by professional transport and logistics partners. For mankind, the process of moving goods between producer and buyer is eternal.


PRACTICALITY, SPEED AND VALUE


Global cooperation and international trade is only truly effective when it is supported by logistics services that combine practicality with speed and value.


On this basis, I am convinced that the range of specialist global airfreight operations we offer, which combine the flexibility and understanding to meet every customer requirement to the maximum degree, are needed and will prosper by meeting the constantly changing requirements of the world economy. Much of what is happening now strengthens our confidence in the future of professional, diverse and focused airlines that only specialise in moving freight, as long as they place customers at the heart of their business. Freight companies that think more about aircraft than their customers will not survive, while passenger airlines that see airfreight only as a by-product and are downgrading their focus on freight will see their customers looking for other partners that take their business seriously. We believe a dedicated focus on the needs of freight customers is vital to building a successful business.
