FUSELAGE SECTION OF NEW GENERATION RUSSIAN PASSENGER AIRCRAFT
One of Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ giant An-124-100 freighters was needed to transport a fuselage section for the new Irkut MS-21 Russian passenger aircraft between the Russian cities of Irkutsk and Zhukovsky. The dimensions of the outsize cylindrical fuselage section were 11.5 metres in length, 4.7 metres in width and 4.2 metres in height so the gap between the An-124-100 cargo hold’s contour was minimal and required all of Volga-Dnepr’s technical loading expertise to ensure it was moved on and off the aircraft safely. Loading the piece of fuselage required the development of special tackle which was produced in cooperation between the specialists at Volga-Dnepr and the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.

HELICOPTERS CROSS THE ATLANTIC
Four helicopters bound for Heli Expo in Los Angeles, the world’s largest helicopter show, crossed the Atlantic onboard a Volga- Dnepr An-124. The helicopters were loaded at Italy’s Milano Malpensa Airport for the airline’s customer, AgustaWestland. Volga-Dnepr also organised road transport to deliver the helicopters from Los Angeles Airport to the exhibition site.

RUSSIAN AND KAZAKH SATELLITES REACH BAIKONUR COSMODROME LAUNCH SITE
An An-124-100 freighter delivered the Luch-5V and KazSat-3 telecommunications satellites from Krasnoyarsk in Russia to Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome. The satellites, weighing a combined 21 tons, were secured inside a special shipping container for the transportation, measuring 14 metres long, 3 metres wide and more than 4 metres high. The container was placed carefully onto the aircraft’s loading ramp using an external crane and then winched into the cargo hold using the An-124’s own onboard handling system. The flight also carried support equipment for the satellites. Volga-Dnepr later delivered the satellite container back to its manufacturer in Krasnoyarsk.
THE FALKLANDS TO PHILADELPHIA
From the Falklands to Philadelphia and Norway as Volga-Dnepr completed its 1,697th delivery of helicopters. The airline carried one of Eurocopter’s Super Puma helicopters and two Sikorsky S-92 helicopters from Mount Pleasant in the Falkland Islands and Philadelphia, USA, to Bergen, Norway.

VOLGA-DNEPR SHIPS ‘CYGNUS’ RESUPPLY SPACECRAFT
Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ expertise in the movement of space cargoes was called upon once again to transport the Pressurized Cargo Module (PCM) of the Cygnus resupply spacecraft from Turin, Italy, to Wallops Island, USA. The PCM was packed into a special container and was carried onboard the airline’s An-124-100 ‘Ruslan’ freighter along with supporting equipment to the launch site in Virginia State. Experts from Thales Alenia Space Italia, which produced the PCM, accompanied the cargo to monitor the special temperature conditions required during the transportation.
The flight was the third completed by Volga-Dnepr carrying modules of the Cygnus spacecraft.
