VOLGA-DNEPR SUPPORTS NASA’S HISTORIC MISSION TO MARS
Major parts of the launch vehicle for NASA’s most ambitious rover mission to Mars, successfully launched into orbit in November 2011 were delivered to the Cape Canaveral launch site in Florida by Volga-Dnepr Airlines.
In support of the Mars Science Laboratory ‘Curiosity’ mission, a Volga-Dnepr An-124-100 freighter aircraft safely delivered the Atlas V active expendable launch system, part of the Atlas rocket family operated by the Lockheed Martin-Boeing joint venture, United Launch Alliance. The flight departed from Huntsville, Alabama, for Cape Canaveral.
AN-124 AND IL-76TD-90VD JOIN FORCES TO DELIVER SUKHOI FLIGHT SIMULATOR
Volga-Dnepr Airlines carried a flight simulator for training Sukhoi Superjet 100 flight crews using its An-124 and IL-76TD- 90VD freighters from Châlons-en-Champagne in France to Moscow. Even though the simulator - manufactured by Thales Training & Simulation Company in France – only had a total payload of 40 tons, the outsize components of the system took up virtually the entire space of both the An-124 and IL-76TD- 90VD cargo cabins. Both aircraft departed from Paris-Vatry Airport destined for Ramenskoye Airport in Moscow.

RUSLAN INTERNATIONAL MOVES A PIECE OF AVIATION HISTORY
A restoration project to preserve the world’s last flying Fairey Gannet T5 anti-submarine aircraft was given a vital boost when Ruslan International flew the aircraft from Goose Bay in the north of Canada to a new home in Minneapolis on board an An-124-100 freighter aircraft. During its operational career, the Gannet was a key part of the Navy’s anti-submarine defence and airborne early warning system.

ABC TRANSPORTS ‘VOSTOK’ SPACE CAPSULE
The former USSR space capsule ‘Vostok 3KA-2’ that went into orbit in 1961 was safely returned to a museum in Russia onboard an AirBridgeCargo Airlines’ B747-400 freighter. Weighing 5,600 kilos, the capsule was transported from ABC’s European on-line station in Frankfurt on one of the airline’s scheduled flights to its cargo hub at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. The space capsule was produced by the USSR and is of great historical interest for its role in the country’s space exploration programme.

EXPRESS AM5 AND AM6 SATELLITES TAKE OFF FROM CANADA
Two of Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ IL-76TD-90VD freighters safely delivered highly-sensitive Express AM5 and Express AM6 satellites from Montreal in Canada, to Krasnoyarsk, Russia. The container used to move the satellites was equipped with a special temperature control system to ensure the valuable satellites were protected throughout the transportation process. During a scheduled technical stop in Haan Airport in Germany a diesel generator was connected to the container to keep the cargo at the required constant temperature.
