TV 250 stages inaugural golf event at Stoke Park
The Thames Valley 250 listing of top private companies in the region began a new era of hospitality and networking last month with its first ever golf day.
Set amid the historic surroundings of Stoke Park, the day was fittingly won by a team representing Blandy & Blandy, founded in 1733 and the longest established firm of solicitors in the Thames Valley.
The four-man team led by partner Nick Burrows scored 93 Stableford points and won a magnificent James Bond Golf Day worth £2,500, donated by Stoke Park.
The stunning Stoke Park mansion and its 27-hole championship golf course, has been the setting for two famous Bond movies – Tomorrow Never Dies and notably Goldfinger, with manservant Oddjob using his steel-rimmed bowler hat to decapitate a statue near the 18th green as Bond plays a tense golf match.

There were no such dramatic scenes during the TV 250 golf event, but the club and course were definitely ready for their ‘close-ups’, both providing superb standards and settings amid a blue-sky sunshine day – golfing heaven.
A very acceptable ‘gimme’ was received by recruiting specialists GCS who, led by MD Chris Bartlett, scored 87 points to take runner-up spot. Each team member won a £150 golfing voucher donated by
Golfbreaks.com, Europe’s largest golf travel company.
Nick Burrows achieved a golfer’s dream on Stoke Park’s 7th hole, winning the nearest-the-pin challenge. Again historic, the hole was the inspiration for the world famous par-three 16th at Augusta National.
The longest drive competition was won by Peter Richards of IHG (International Hospitals Group, a
division of the International Group which owns Stoke Park). Burrows and Richards won Stoke Park golf shirts.
There was warm applause when The Business Magazine publisher David Murray revealed at the prize presentations, (which followed a mouth watering three-course meal) that the Thames Valley TV250 Golf Day would be repeated next year.
Thanking sponsors Stoke Park, Golfbreaks, Grant Thornton, HSBC and Blandy & Blandy, Murray said further TV250 roundtable discussions and networking events were being planned – not least the drinks reception at Stoke Park on July 15 when the 2013/14 listings will be revealed.
