Another good year !

2012 was a standout year for Boyes Turner – UK Regional Law Firm of the Year (second time in three years), income growth of 15% and a market leading performance in Chambers (Guide to The Legal Profession). This year looks like being another good one for the firm which continues to win awards and invest in developing its services and people.

Awards …

Over the last five years Boyes Turner has won/been shortlisted for over 30 national awards. 2013 has seen the firm continue to benchmark against the best in the UK legal market.

• Insolvency partner Chris Branson was shortlisted

by Chambers as one of the UK’s top 100 commercial lawyers. Chris was the only Thames Valley lawyer and one of only two regional corporate recovery solicitors to reach this stage. The final 100 will be announced later in the summer.

It’s all about the people …

Since the start of January there have been 12 new hires at the firm. The majority of these have been on the contentious side of the business which has grown rapidly over the last five years and now accounts for well over half of the organisation’s income.

Providing clients with continuity through organic growth remains a cornerstone of the business. In April two further solicitors – Rowan Turrall and Nicola Choa were promoted to “associate – solicitor” status – the rung below partner. They join over a dozen lawyers who have achieved this in recent years. Many of these have built national reputations and are ranked by Chambers as amongst the UK’s leading legal experts in their specialist areas. April also saw the promotion to partner of property lawyer - William Nassau-Lake. William joined the firm in 2005, having qualified in 2002 and became an associate in 2007. He has particular expertise in real estate transactions – specifically the acquisition and disposal of development land. William has been rated by Chambers as one of the UK’s leading property lawyers since 2010. He works closely with Stella Perry the new head of the Property group’s Residential & New Homes team.

Following conversion to an LLP, the firm has continued its move to a more corporate operating style. As part of this, Steve Brandon has recently joined as Boyes Turner’s first non-executive director. He will be working closely with senior management helping them achieve an ambitious growth strategy. Steve brings with him over 25 years of blue chip management and consulting experience.

Andrew Chalkley (CEO) …

“I am pleased to say that we are continuing to build the momentum we have worked hard to achieve over the last three years. At the heart of our strategy is helping clients distinguish between law firms and ensure that they choose the right one. To have our lawyers and services ranked as amongst the best in the UK is hugely important to the business. I am also pleased to see the investment we are making in developing our staff is paying off. I have no doubt that Rowan and Nicola will make their mark in the profession and that William who has now become a partner will have a long and successful career as one of the region’s acknowledged leading property lawyers”.

• The firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) service, led by partner Sarah Hadland was again ranked in the UK’s top 25 by World Trademark Review 1000 in its review of the UK’s leading IP practices. This is the second year in a row that the service has been ranked as one the UK’s elite.
