The site is dominated by a lush, healthy stand of big bluestem grass with an accompanying mix of mountain mint, coneflowers, sunflowers, asters and other prairie wildflowers.

Located just 1 ½ miles north of Princeton on Route 26 is the Red Covered Bridge, built in 1863 and later rehabilitated in 1973. It is one of only five remaining covered bridges in Illinois and still open to traffic.
