2012 Dance Council Scholarship Recipients


Claire Ashcraft Elaine Harper Memorial Scholarship


Claire is a member of the Collin County Ballet Theater Youth Ensemble as an apprentice under the direction of Kirt and Linda Hathaway. In 2011, she attended American Ballet Theater’s intensive in New York City. This summer, she attended the School of American Ballet’s five-week intensive in New York City. This fall, she will be a freshman at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.


Tiffany Byrd Nadine Legere Memorial Scholarship


Tiffany studies at the Texas Ballet Theater School in Dallas, dancing both as part of the school’s ensemble and as a soloist. In 2011, she placed second in the senior contemporary category and the Top 12 in the senior classical category at the Youth American Grand Prix regionals in Indianapolis. At the American Ballet Competition, she was awarded the “most promising contemporary dancer.” Her goal for next year is to be dancing with a professional ballet company while tak- ing college classes online so that she can earn a degree.


Anastasia Markova Kittie LaPointe Peterson Scholarship


Although Anastasia was born in Seattle, her first spoken words were Russian. She studied Ice Dancing for a number of years, but then realized that she enjoyed her ballet classes more. When she was ten years old, she began taking ballet classes from German Zamuel from St. Petersburg, Russia. After studying with him, she dedicated herself to ballet. She has attended the year- round program at Kirov Academy of Ballet for two years and she hopes to continue to learn as much as possible about ballet, especially the Vaganova technique.


Rachel Hutsell Miriam Widman Rowley Memorial Scholarship


Rachel began dance training with Catriona Steel at Allegro West Academy of Dance. While at Allegro West, Rachel has performed with the Ballet Ensemble of Katy around the country. She has received scholarships for summer programs to Pacific Northwest Ballet School, School of American Ballet, Miami City Ballet School, Orlando Ballet School, and Accademia Inernazionale Coreutica in Florence, Italy. This summer, she studied at the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet and at the School of American Ballet.


Kendall Glasgow Sally Williams Memorial Scholarship


Fifteen-year-old Kendall Glasgow studies at the Ballet Academy of Texas with the Pre-Professional Preparatory Program. She is also an apprentice for the Ballet Ensemble of Texas. This summer, she attended American Ballet Theatre’s five-week intensive in New York. In the future, she would like to dance profession- ally.

Therese Davis Amanda Stone Ballet Scholarship


Therese is in the Professional Division at the Pacific Northwest Ballet. In 2011, she attended Pacific Northwest Ballet School’s intensive with a Dance Council of North Texas Scholarship. She attended the School of American Ballet’s intensive this past summer under a full scholarship. She is starting her second year in the Professional Division at PNB, and would love to receive an offer for apprenticeship as well and she will also be auditioning for companies both in the United States and in Europe.


Faith Jones Joyce Seaborne Bader Scholarship


Faith has been a member of the Lake Cities Ballet Company for four years and attended the Joffrey Ballet School’s summer intensive under a partial scholarship last summer. In the next year, she would like to gain experience so that she can compete in the Youth American Grand Prix as a soloist. Faith wants to con- tinue training and become a professional dancer. Her long term goal is to become a ballet teacher.


Rachel Hickman Burklyn Ballet Theatre Scholarship


Fifteen-year-old Rachel has trained in classical ballet and contemporary. Last summer, she attended Burklyn Ballet Theatre and during the year, she dances in her hometown civic company, Midland Festival Ballet. In past summers, she has attended Interlochen’s general arts program, Milwaukee Ballet’s Intermediate Program and workshops with her teacher, Susan Clark. She hopes to learn how to more clearly express the emotions in the pieces she performs for an audience over the next few years.


Ripley Mayfield Burklyn Ballet Theatre Scholarship


Fourteen-year-old Ripley Mayfield has been studying at the Ballet Academy of Texas since 2001 and is a mem- ber of the Ballet Ensemble of Texas. She has attended the Burklyn Ballet Theater intensive for four consecu- tive years. She has also attended American Ballet Theatre’s California intensive. She hopes to continue to progress in her studies of dance in the coming years.


Natalie Bonniwell Buester Cooper Jazz Scholarship


Natalie is on the senior elite team at Imagery in Motion Dance in Argyle, Texas. She studies ballet, pointe, con- temporary, lyrical, jazz, modern, musical the- atre/character, and hip-hop. This summer, she attended the Talent On Parade Go Pro workshop and the Collective in Los Angeles. She hopes to receive a schol- arship for college to become a dance major and eventu- ally pursue her goal in the professional world.
