2012 Dance Council Scholarship Recipients


Timothy Amirault Tom Adams Scholarship


Timothy is a senior at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas, where he studies ballet and modern. He is a member of Booker T. Washington’s Repertory Dance Company and has performed works by Larry Keigwin, Andy Noble, Orion Duckstein and Bridget Moore. Timothy hopes to attend a university or conservatory so that he can develop the necessary tools to become a well-rounded choreographer.


Emily McDaniel - Jerry Bywaters Cochran for Calloway & Jerry CochranScholarship


Emily is a 2011 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and is studying dance at SUNY Purchase College. As a NFAA YoungArts Silver Winner in Dance/Choreography, she joined other winners for the “In/Out of the Studio” week in NYC and served as an arts ambassador at high schools in New York. She was also invited by NFAA YoungArts to perform in Los Angeles at Warner Bros. Through these journeys, Emily realizes that her future is full of potential and a learning laboratory for new successes and discoveries.


Ida Saki - Jerry Bywaters Cochran for Calloway & Jerry CochranScholarship


A Dallas, Texas native, Ida is in her second year at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University as well as tour- ing with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet Company. She was named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts through the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts YoungArts program. She was also named a Texas Young Master in Dance, Iran’s Person of the Day, Distinguished Performer of the Year and Outstanding Dancer of the Year. At the National High School Dance Festival she received the Outstanding Choreography Award.


Emily Bernet Charles Santos Scholarship


Emily is a 2012 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and a member of the Repertory I Dance Company. She has performed works by Dwight Rhoden, Takehiro Ueyama, Larry Keigwin, and Andy Noble. For her BTWHSPVA Senior Project, Emily was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2012 YoungArts competition. In summer 2011, she trained at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance with Summer Lee-Rhatigan, and this past summer, she attend- ed the Movement Invention Project in New York City.


Erin Sauerhage Fred (Poppy) Ziaks Memorial Scholarship


Erin is a 2012 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and plans to attend the Boston Conservatory this fall. This summer, she studied the Taylor technique at the Paul Taylor sum- mer intensive in New York City. Her ultimate goals are to join a modern or contemporary ballet company, dance on Broadway, and choreograph.

Jenna Mitchell Charles Andrew Kulp Scholarship


Jenna is a senior at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where her world of dance has been broadened and expanded through the experiences and education she has received. Jenna hopes to continue to develop her technique and artistry through intensive training and pursuit of dance, and also hopes that with time, work ethic, determination, and compassion for her art form, she will continue to evolve into the dancer and artist she hopes to be.


Sergio Tapia-Fikes Dr. Dan Pickard and Rosie Kimple Scholarship


Sergio is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where he was a member of Repertory Dance Companies I & II. He currently attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts. He dreams of dancing with companies such as Hubbard Street, Cedar Lake, Nederlands Dans Theatre, Ballet Jazz de Montreal, and Aszure Barton & Artists.


Jordan Merritt South Dallas Dance Festival Scholarship


Jordan is a senior performing company member of LakeCities Ballet Theatre in Lewisville, Texas. Through her affiliation with LBT, she has performed with world- renowned dancers such as American Ballet Theatre’s Julie Kent and Sarah Lane and American Ballet Theatre’s Jose Manuel Carreno. Jordan is a “triple- threat” and hopes to become a professional contempo- rary, ballet, modern or Broadway dancer.


Mackenzie Voorhies - Natalie Skelton Scholarship for Glenda Brown Choreography Project Scholarship


Mackenzie trains at the Academy of Dance Arts in Allen, Texas and is a member of their Senior Competition Team. She has participated in the Dallas Repertoire Ballet presentation of The Nutcracker for the past nine years, including the past four years as a member of the DRB Company. Over the next two years, Mackenzie hopes to further enhance her dance technique in order to prepare her for her college dance program applications.


Alexandra Politz Glenda Brown Choreography Project Scholarship


Alexandra trains with the Academy of Dance Arts in Allen, Texas and currently focuses on ballet, pointe, con- temporary, lyrical, jazz, tap, and hip hop as a member of their Senior Competition Team. She is also a member of the Dallas Repertoire Ballet Company. In 2009, she attended the Joffrey Elite Ecole Summer Ballet Intensive and in 2010, she attended the Jillana School Summer Ballet Intensive. Alexandra plans to continue to strive to fulfill her dream of dancing professionally.
