4. On June 22 Jacobs & Hunt of Petersfield, in association with consultant John Cameron, will auction the collection of the late record-breaking aviator Peter Twiss. Twiss became famous in 1956 when he smashed the air speed record by 300mph in a Fairey Delta 2 jet. Included are Twiss’s leather flying helmet with Perspex visor, two pairs of leather flying goggles, a leather briefcase and two leather and canvas RAF briefcases, each bearing the Peter Twiss monogram. www.jacobsandhunt.com 5. A remarkable survivor from a landmark battle in British military history is coming up for sale at Thomas del Mar in Blythe Road, West Kensington on June 27. Not only is it the earliest standard known to exist from a regiment of cavalry of the line in the British regular army, and has a superb provenance, but the standard, from the 8th (Ligonier’s) Regiment of Horse, witnessed the last occasion on which a British monarch personally led troops into battle – George II at Dettingen, Bavaria, in 1743. Until now it has descended through the

This Chinese cloisonné enamel crane from the Qing Dynasty (18th-19th century), an important Chinese symbol of longevity and immortality, will be offered in Dreweatts’ Donnington Priory sale on June 27. The 2ft 4in (72cm) high crane stands on a double pedestal, decorated with lotus and foliage on a turquoise ground. The intricately detailed body and legs are enamelled in white within gilt outlines.
