“What Would Niel Do?” Change First, Then Hope

At a time

by Niel Young Advocates Columnist

when it ap- peared that onl y one Republi - can name for the new S e n a t e District 7 was being floated, I was ap- proached

by friends in Franklin who said they would be sup- porting that candidate, and would I join them? If, he is the only candidate, well why not? Soon, after re-assessing

such an endorsement, a new name advised that he would in fact be in the Re- publican Primary. This is one of the moments when “What Would Niel Do?” “WWND” is the best ave- nue toward a decision. To do this, the first WWND principle, it meant tak- ing a look at who has this candidate from Franklin supported for state or na- tional office in the past? Are those people anyone I would have considered in a GOP primary, for any office? Who is endorsing this Franklin candidate? I am judgmental: guilty by association! If my friends are not on the same page with me, then there is a reason to have a gut- check. I was already suspect of

their candidate’s recent endorsements. In 2000, he endorsed John Mc- Cain. My Franklin friends and I had chosen to sup- port GW Bush. This year the candidate endorsed Jon Huntsman for Presi- dent. One cannot make me believe they are the lease bit conservative with that choice! I have more, but be-

cause I am a principled fiscal and social common sense conservative my choice for Senate District 7 is Josh Youseff from Laconia. I will elabo-

rate more in a future col- umn about my questions to him and his answers which were offered with- out hesitation.

******** Let it be said that I sel-

dom forgive, and never for- get. This from NH Union Leader: “JOEL JOINS OVIDE. Two years ago, former Judd Gregg Chief of Staff Joel Maiola was a co-chair of the ‘Repub- licans for Lynch’ steer- ing committee, a group that also included former Nashua Mayor and Ex- ecutive Councilor Bernie Streeter, Griff Dalianis (husband of the Lynch- appointed state Supreme Court Chief Justice Linda Dalianis) and business- man Steve Griffin. “Two years later ,

Lynch is exiting and Maiola is returning to the GOP, endorsing La- montagne for gover- nor.” So, John Lynch is finally

leaving, and Joel and his RINO friends are return- ing? People who are “Po- litical Prostitutes” do not impress me. And Ovide Lamontagne isn’t bring- ing me together with Joel. Damn, I hate politics! I supported “the ticket”

in 2010. Where was Joel? He was helping defeat my friend and candidate, John Stephen. MANY of my friends

don’t take kindly to me for my criticism of the GOP (amoebas), but they can- not accuse me of HELP- ING THE Liberal Looney Democrats. Thanks for nothing!

******** I am always motivated

to pen a response after reading Fergus Cullen, friend, and former NH GOP Chairman. He does accomplish what an op- ed is intended to do. He makes me think, wants me to research more on my own, and draw my own conclusion, then debate if

one feels the need! I have such a long “en-

emies list”, many from each side, I am proud to say. My time as a legisla- tor, and city councilor was not intended to be a resume builder. I could not remain silent, so I ran for office to fix what was wrong. Speaker Bill O’Brien, a soft spoken man, knew he had only one year of the two to fix what is wrong in NH government. The second year he knew the defec- tions would begin, you know; to save their po- litical “career.” Though I could go on, long re- sponses tend to lose the reader because the mind wanders while digesting the info. Going back to my days with Mel Thom- son; we had RINOs and we had Republicans who finally did the right thing, they became Democrats. We had a group of elite Republicans, and we still do today. Still do; right Joel, Bernie and Grif? ********

Just returned from southern NH, had to do some business. As a treat for my honey (Betty) we stopped at The Puritan for ice cream. We parked behind a car with an up- dated “Obama 1/20/13 Fix The Error” bumper sticker. When the owner returned to his car, I had to tell him how happy I am that a young fellow of his age knows what we must do. Justin said this is the FIRST bum- per sticker he has ever put on his vehicle. I gave him a copy of The Weirs Times! Can’t you just feel it?

The man who wanted to change our America is bringing us together. Thank you Wisconsin voters, and Gov. Scott Walker, you showed us the way.
