Just in time for this
writing, I have received my reply from the folks who make the Hungry- Man Dinners. You may recal l that I wrote to them to complain that I thought that they having sent me a coupon good for just one replacement dinner was a poor reso- lution to my complaint. They sort of agreed, as you can see for yourself in the following letter, which, while it begins with their customary first sentence, it does then press on to address my complaint about their inadequate compensa- tion. Here’s what they wrote:
“Dear Mr. Fuller: Thank you for taking
the time to contact Con- sumer Relations regard- ing your recent purchase of Hungry Man Salisbury Steak Dinner. Please be assured that the experi- ence you shared with us does not meet the High Qual ity standards we have for all of our prod- ucts. It is customary to re-

makes clear that work- ing for the Hungry-Man Consumer Relations De- partment only requires that you memorize just a few redundant phrases which you can then re- peat and combine into a response for almost any complaint you might have to answer on behalf
of Hungry-Man! It takes Diablo several weeks to schmooze me as much as Denise Lightfoot did in just one short letter! I got some reader feed-
back today about the ever shrinking product packaging we are being subjected to. One reader writes: “Greetings First of all, your column
is about the only reason I pick up the Weird [sic] Times Second, with regard to
your critiques of what- ever – keep up the good work – Give em hell!!! My pet peeve – for some
time – is ice cream pack- aging – for decades one picked up a half gallon of ice cream for the family. Then a few years ago, I realized the box was not a half gallon any- more– it was 1.75 Quarts – same price or higher than before – then, more See RAMBLING on 12
