IS THIS THE WORLD’S HEALTHIEST POOL?

The Hotel Terme di Relilax, one of the top spa resorts in Venice, has finished installation of a state-of-the-art BioDesign swimming pool filled with MagnaPool mineral water, helping its claim to be the world’s healthiest swimming pool.

MagnaPool’s eco and holistic health benefits due to its mineral rich water have been combined at the hotel pool with BioDesign environmentally friendly and distinctively constructed swimming pools.

MagnaPool worked closely with Italian distributor BioDesign to commission the pool last December. The products used by BioDesign, resulted in the company winning a sustainability award at the 2011 La Piscina International Swimming Pool

Exhibition in Barcelona. The Ecosystem machine, specifically designed for MagnaPool, won the prize in Barcelona for innovation. Ross Palmer, Chief Executive of MagnaPool said: “The Latin derivative for ‘sallas per aquam’ is SPA, and translated into English it becomes ‘health through water’. “There is a lot of evidence demonstrating that potassium has dermatological benefits and that the transdermal absorption of magnesium is also accretive to the body’s physiology.

“We have taken the mineral magnesium, which many consider a ‘miracle’ mineral and developed eco-friendly mineral rich wellness, water for swimming pools globally.”

UK DESIGNERS TO DEVELOP NEW INNOVATION WITH AUSTRALIAN DESIGNERS

Leading British pump manufacturer, Stuart Turner Ltd, has signed an exclusive agreement with an Australian innovator New Fluid Technology to develop and market a new pump technology. Following a review of the performance characteristics of the Supa-Stelth pump, originally designed for pool and spa applications, Stuart Turner agreed to develop a range of multi-stage pumps incorporating the patented NFT design. Stuart Turner was established in 1906 and offers an extensive range of pumping solutions and products. The new pumps will be intended for both domestic and commercial water pressure boosting applications with flow rates up to 160 litres per minute at pressures between 150kPA and 600kPA.

The design provides substantial increases in centrifugal pump efficiency and significant reductions in noise as a result of its unique ‘solid body rotation of fluids’ design which effectively eliminates turbulence within the pump. Mark Williams, Managing Director of Stuart Turner said: “We are looking forward to a really exciting outcome from our trans-global venture with NFT and hope that it heralds a wider collaboration in the future.”

Co-chairman of Stuart Turner, William Barnard, says that over that time they’ve relied on innovation to keep the company at the forefront of the pump business.

“We have a fair degree of inventiveness from our own people but we keep our eyes open for good ideas from others as well.”

SWIMMING POOLS FOR BALCONIES IN TOWER BLOCK DESIGN

Architects have made a splash with a unique design for new towers which feature swimming pools enclosed in glass instead of balconies. Known as Aquaria Grande, the 37-storey skyscrapers in Mumbai were the result of collaboration between Hong Kong-based architect James Law and real estate company, the Wadhwa Group.

The complex is to have 200 apartments, three levels of car parking, a gym and sauna, but it is the

swimming pools which have caused the most excitement and criticism.

Critics claim the design is a ‘deadly accident waiting to happen’.

One architect appeared to find the idea of swimming pool balconies more appealing. Saying the design represented an ‘unbelievable skyscraping residential complex’.

She said the pools were among its ‘most outstanding and eye-popping features’.

Most of the pumps Stuart Turner makes are for bathrooms, to boost the water flow but in the past couple of years they’ve expanded into other applications including spa pumps. Barnard added that Stuart Turner is already in a number of countries around the world, including the Middle East, and they plan to take the technology into these international markets.
