Certikin has introduced the Vacanza spa series from Caldera into what it calls the value for money category. The spas come from Watkins
Manufacturing, which has a 36-year pedigree in making quality hot tubs. There’s six models in the new range. Exclusive to Caldera dealers is the
Capitolo model. The name is inspired by one of the Seven Hills of Rome. The five person acrylic spa has been specially designed for
compartment, which remains accessible at the front right corner of the spa. The 23 jets are strategically positioned to provide a relaxing massage in all five seats, including calf jets in the foot ridge. This system provides a balanced workout by directing jets at all of the body’s major muscle groups for a satisfying full-body massage. The Capitolo model measures

customers who are specifically looking for a spa with lounge seats and this one boasts two. Cleverly designed, the seats have been positioned so that the feet of both

Surrey based Home Counties Pools and Hot Tubs introduced a new Endless Pools Swim Spa to an enthusiastic audience at this year’s Triathlon Show at Sandown Park, the tenth event of its kind. A Zoggs Swim Zone was one of
the features of the exhibition which attracted triathlon athletes from all over the UK. Endless Pools and Home Counties Pools decided it was a perfect
market for the stylish swim spas. Over 140 exhibitors displayed the
latest in fitness training equipment in the three disciples of the triathlon – swimming, cycling and running. Top coaches and athletes
provided demonstrations of swim techniques and stroke efficiency. Top swim coach Rick Kiddle ran training and technique sessions each afternoon in the Endless Pool swim spa.

HOT TUB THERAPY AIDS DIABETIC PATIENTS
A new study in the US has shown that hot tubs can have a dramatic effect improving Type II diabetes. Philip L. Hooper, published a study
in the New England Journal of Medicine, about the effect of hot tub therapy on his diabetic patients. His medical approach is simple – have them sit neck-deep in a hot tub for 30 minutes, six times a week. After three weeks of hot tubbing,
the average patient experienced a significant decrease in blood glucose levels. One man had to reduce his insulin medication by almost 18% to prevent his blood sugar from dropping too low. Sitting in a hot tub either increased
the effectiveness of the insulin or caused glucose uptake by a different insulin-independent mechanism, similar to the effects of exercise. The therapeutic benefits has been given a high profile in the United States and is said to have given a ‘much needed boost’ to summer hot tub sales.
COAST SPAS INTRODUCES ECOCLEAN UV STERILISER
Coast Spas has introduced a UV steriliser aimed at providing re- assurance for hot tub owners concerned about pathogens in spa water which might be resistant to chlorine and ozone. Ultraviolet germicidal UV lamps are
low pressure mercury vapour lamps which produce the UV dose necessary to cleanse the water thoroughly. Ultraviolet light is generated by an
electrical discharge through low pressure inert gases and mercury vapour with the special quartz tube of the lamp. The steriliser is
installed out of sight, concealed by a spa skirt. Quick access is gained through removing one skirt panel. The unique quartz tube the EcoClean UV
of
Steriliser blocks out all but UV-C 254 Nm rays. Any less and a steriliser is less effective
for this or
intensity, it will break
chlorine
bromine and be less effective as a result. Although hot tub water should be
balanced, balancing chemicals do not alter the effectiveness of the steriliser, as it neutralises 99.9% of viruses and bacteria because it eliminates chloramines and organisms. It puts nothing into the water,
making it an eco-friendly, reliable and effective choice. The sterilisers UV Bulb should be
replaced and its protective quartz tube cleaned every 18 months. The UV-C rays of the steriliser take
care of in-line sanitation however, Coast Spas say that weekly shocking of the water is advisable to oxidise any chloramines or contaminants. An ozonator is also recommended as an excellent complementary device for oxidation.
