You earlier tipped Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana and Senegal as top favourites for the 2012 Afcon. Were you surprised to see Zambia in the final? The Chipolopolo surprised everybody, but for me, I began rooting for them after their first match. They were focused and had stamina, which is very essential in such a tournament with six finals. The soil of Gabon seemingly brought them favour be- cause of the 1993 accident that happened here in Libre- ville. Do you feel that way too like many Gabonese? I don’t want to be superstitious. What I can salute in them dur- ing the tournament was their combative spirit, cohesion and focus. Zambia could have stood up against any team in the tournament and I’m happy for them. They have been consis- tent anyway. Remember they were narrowly defeated by Nige- ria in the previous edition. Was the standard of the tournament satisfactory to you, owing to the fact that some big guns failed to reach the fi- nals? The standard was high. You could tell from the level of the games right from the group stage. The final itself is another proof that the competition was of high standard. Qualifiers for the 2013 Afcon are underway already. What are the chances of Gabon? We’ll work hard as usual to book our place because our failure to reach the finals will break the current trend of progress the coach and our FA have been working on and it would be sad for our fans not to see us after what we did just a year ago. What are your plans at club level? Still same, I want to concentrate on Saint Etienne and contrib- ute to the progress of the club in the remaining part of the sea- son. I’d still strive to horn my skills and grow as a loveable striker.
