DARTMOUTH - is Buzzing

L

ove Dartmouth, the unique new social network fr Dartmouth and the South Hams, has been buzzing all through the winter and looks set for an exciting

summer. Friends Reunited

Phil Cokell of Above Town, Dartmouth was united with a long lost friend of his older brother. Phil found Robin Dadson on Love Dartmouth, got in touch and they met together to remember old times.

“It was a magic moment.” said Phil. “Robin brought some wonderful old photos of my family on holiday in Dartmouth in the 50’s - pictures I’d never seen.”

Picking up a bargain

The new group “Swap, Share, Sell and Save” got off to a good start with people offering to sell or give away their old stuff and others requesting stuff they needed.

One member got all the power tools she needed for her new garden for free and the donator was delighted to make a bit more room in his shed.

Terri and Martin Golightly-Roche of East Allington picked up a lovely antique pine dining table from a Kingswear resident for just £50. “It will be perfect in our kitchen/diner - just what we needed.” said Terri. “We’ll literally dine of this story for years!” joked Martin.

Giving Santa a helping hand

As Christmas approached, well-known local artists Theresa and Simon Hart of Dartmouth were desperate. Their daughter’s Christmas present - a baby doll kit to go with 3 dolls, push chairs, cot, change tables, carry cots, wardrobe etc. needed to be collected from Gloucester and they had no time to travel there to pick it up. They put out an appeal in Love Dartmouth and gallant members Sara and Bob Whittard who live in Gloucester and staying in Kingswear over Christmas saw the appeal. They collected the presents and delivered to Theresa and Simon in the nick of time, Christmas Eve. “We were delighted to help out. We’ve got two girls

of our own”, said Sara, “and we understand what it means to be without the longed-for present at Christmas.”

Theresa Hart said, “Further to my pre Xmas desperado request for any kind person passing through Gloucester who could help me get a bundle of dolly things for our daughter. I am delighted to say the spirit of Xmas, community & communication are all alive & kicking! Thank you to Love Dartmouth for being the portal and to a very kind family with a Kingswear second home here who collected & brought the things down. Result- overjoyed 6 year old girlie and we now know a very nice family from Gloucester! Thank you.”

When the Dartmouth Chamber of Commerce folded, local businesswoman Francesca Johnson initiated a business networking trial. Francesca created the “Dartmouth Enterprise” group which offers a forum for local traders to simply communicate their opinions and ideas.

Carole Hart-Fletcher of Love Dartmouth says,

‘Love Dartmouth can have an important part to play in canvassing opinions and sharing ideas.

Dartmouth Enterprise Group is ideal for this.’ Prize Winners

Dartmouth and the South Hams is so photogenic it is no wonder that members of Love Dartmouth are enjoying sharing their images in Love Dartmouth. The cover of every issue of the much loved By The Dart magazine features an image of a local scene and as a tribute to the efforts of members in Love Dartmouth, Mark Simpson, Publisher of By The Dart has selected an image from the community which is featured on the cover of this issue; ‘Classic Yacht off Daymark’.

The winning entry is from James Rainsford, an inspired photographer and resident of Dartmouth. James takes beautiful photographs of local landmarks and events sharing many in Love Dartmouth. James is also a novelist and poet.

Helen Lloyd, Proprietor of “Home” on Foss Street, had a lovely surprise when top chef Mitch Tonks pulled her name from the Love Dartmouth Christmas Prize Draw hat and she won a meal for two at the wonderful Seahorse restaurant in Dartmouth. Helen said, “Very excited to have won the Prize draw for a meal at the Seahorse - just the thing to chase away those January blues!”

Geoff Hughes of Blackhawton was the lucky winner of the Valentines Day Prize Draw, a meal for two generously donated by Restaurant Angelique. Geoff’s name was drawn out of hat by the new head chef Stephen Bulmer. Geoff says delightedly, ‘I would just like to thank Love Dartmouth, Angelique Restaurant and you Carole for organising the Valentines Day Draw. Pat and I are delighted to have been the lucky Winners of the prize draw for Dinner for two at Angelique and although we could not make it on the night we look forward to sampling the menu created by the new head chef Stephen Bulmer.’

Head Chef Stephen Bulmer said, ‘Restaurant Angelique is delighted to

support Love Dartmouth and offer a Prize Draw. Great to see such an innovative project in Dartmouth which creates great new opportunities for the businesses in the town. We’re looking forward to welcoming Geoff and his wife for dinner.’

So Love Dartmouth is buzzing and local people and visitors are enjoying interacting with friends and neighbours through this unique extra dimension to local life.
