Brian Friel, is a witty and moving piece set in Ireland in the Thirties. Written in 1990 and premiered in Dublin that year, it transferred to London where, in 1991, it won the Olivier for Best Play. It then went to Broadway, where it won a Tony for Best Play. It is a wonderful piece about homecoming, loss, Catholicism, paganism (Lughnasa is the pagan festival of First Fruits when the Harvest is welcomed) and growing-up. It is also a piece that features parts for five talented and versatile actresses, amongst others, and it will, I know, be an evening not to miss. It is a play that will move you and will also see the Players back on the stage after the resounding success of last year’s Pantomime. Don’t miss it.
