manager here. This meant that we were often here before we got the chance to take over. He and Charlie built up such a brilliant reputation, which we aim to uphold with our own personal touches.

The Bayards Cove Inn has new people in charge: Charlie and Zuzana Deuchar. Here they talk to By The Dart.

Tell us about yourselves. We met at Blackpool Sands working for the Venus Café, where we worked for seven years, three of which I was general manager and Zuzana was assistant manager. For the last year we have lived on the beach in a caravan but when the opportunity arose to take over a real Dartmouth establishment like The Bayards Cove Hotel, we jumped at the chance.

Tell us about the hotel. We offer seven quirky and stylishly appointed bedrooms ranging from £100 - £135 per night. Two of these are large suites suitable for families and all are fully equipped with contemporary comforts whilst retaining the character features of this historic house. Downstairs is open from 10am - 4pm to non residents, dogs and families and is a quiet, comfy location perfect for professional or relaxed meetings or just reading a newspaper with a coffee.

What is it that you find special about the Hotel? We’re just in love with the building, it’s the second oldest in Dartmouth and as a result is really quirky and individual. No two rooms are the same! We also have great neighbours with The Rockfish and The Dartmouth Arms and feel we can create a real exclusive end of Dartmouth down here. We’ve always loved the hotel, being an old school friend of Angus, the previous

What have you got to offer to Dartmouth? We’re looking to get involved in everything, The Music Festival, Regatta, Food Festival, you name it. We’re holding live music every Sunday Evening and have regular tapas nights at the weekend which we hope to extend into the week during the summer. Everyday we’re open for our fresh, locally roasted, Fairtrade coffee. Available from £2, it is constantly being described as the ‘best in coffee town’. There’s also our all day farmhouse breakfasts at £6.95, cooked using only the freshest local ingredients. Similarly we’re serving the famous ‘Bayards Burger’ at £7.95 which again uses locally sourced beef and we plan to offer another exclusive burger each month.
