Royal Borough of Greenwich One of the many events to mark Greenwich becoming a Royal Borough saw the 16th century Tudor Barn and grounds (Well Hall Pleasaunce) as the location for the planting of a Black Poplar Tree from the Queens own private collection. Greenwich became the fi rst new

Royal Borough for more than 80 years on the 3rd of February; this momentous recognition is linked to the Borough’s incredibly strong historical connection to the Royal Family dating back more than 600 years. The new Borough crest, designed by the Royal College of Arms, is based on Greenwich’s existing coat of arms, to which new heraldic features have been added including the Tudor Rose available only to boroughs with Royal status.

They’re Here

The King’s Troop formally marked their arrival in Woolwich by marching through the newly declared Royal Borough, before entering their new barracks at Napier Lines. The new state of the art facility will provide an indoor riding school, two outdoor riding surfaces, a veterinary clinic, saddlers, and the largest, most modern blacksmith’s forge in the British Army. The King’s Troop is comprised of seven offi cers, 164 soldiers and 109 trained horses. Their presence will build on links between the military and Greenwich Borough dating back almost three centuries.

Toy Library Crisis The Rotary Club of Woolwich came to the rescue of the Toy Library with an offer of a replacement vehicle when two of their vital mini-buses were likely to fail their emission tests. The state of the art mini-bus, fully equipped and adapted for wheelchair transport and which should serve the charity for a number of years, was donated to the Toy Library for just £700 with the Rotary Club covering the balance of £2,000 from just part of the funds raised by a sponsored climb of Mount Snowdon back in September 2011.The climb, organised by Past President Tim Lewis, raised over £5,000 and the remainder of the funds are to be divided between the Charlton Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and the Action for Kids charities.
