Vocational Training Apprenticeships in Hairdressing, Barbering and Customer Services

If you would like to gain a qualifi cation that concentrates fully on your chosen vocational career, but can’t afford not to earn money, then an Apprenticeship is for you! What’s an Apprenticeship? An Apprenticeship is a government funded training programme that combines employment with a recognised qualifi cation and includes an NVQ in the vocational area plus additional aims which together make up a Framework. Apprenticeships involve studying and hands-on work, and are open to anyone not in full time education. Most training will take place on the job with attendance at college each week. The Government funds the training part of the programme and your employer will pay your wages. It’s a great opportunity to get the best of both worlds, you gain work experience and a qualifi cation at the same time, what more could you want?! How much does Apprenticeship training cost? Apprenticeships are free for 16 – 18 year olds! There are also funded places for 19 – 24 year olds, and in some circumstances 25+ candidates can get

some funding, although a contribution will be required. To qualify for eligibility for funding, you have to be employed (at least 16 hours per week), leading to at least 30 hours

per week. As an employee, you will receive your normal salary, the National Minimum wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £2.60 per hour, but you may be paid more than this is if you are committed, hardworking and have good customer service skills. Don’t forget that your employer agrees to release you, on pay, for you to attend training at the Academy to gain your qualifi cations.
