ChlorineFree JUN 2011 SPN LONDON’S CONNAUGHT HOTEL CHOOSES CHLORINE-FREE SWIMMING

The Connaught Hotel in London is home to the first Aman Spa outside of an Aman resort. The star of the new spa is the 33-foot indoor pool which uses PoolSan chlorine replacement to offer a chlorine-free swimming experience for guests. The hotel changed from chlorine to PoolSan in January 2011. The PoolSan installation team spent one day installing the dosing system and bringing the maintenance department up to speed with the new controller. The next day was spent making sure the staff were confident with water testing procedures. The chief engineer at The Connaught, Joe Balzano, admits the decision to change to PoolSan was not an easy one.

“As one of the world’s leading hotels there is no margin for error and our pool at The Connaught must always be perfect. I must admit that I was very sceptical about operating without any chlorine. Despite knowing so many other places use it, the idea of replacing the chlorine with PoolSan made me nervous. But our bacteriological tests are always perfect and our water quality remains superb.”

Having seen the improvement in the pool he is now a convert to the new chemical, “PoolSan is a great product and our pool is better in lots of ways. There is no odour around the pool and we no longer get damage to the metal fittings that we saw with chlorine. The PoolSan dosing system is easy and safer to operate especially when compared with our old system and I am very happy we no longer have the concern of hazardous chemicals in the plant room. We are very proud to be able to tell our guests we have a chlorine-free pool and I’ve also since recommended PoolSan to other sites.”

100% replacement for chlorine or bromine based disinfection. The manufacturers claim that it is fully effective and works on the gentler method of prevention rather than cure.

Copper does not dissolve easily in water and the fraction of copper which doesn’t combine with algae can cause staining. It is also difficult to introduce copper into the water at a high enough level to kill bacteria. Even chelated copper products don’t put biological active copper into the water. Copper is only effective against algae and bacteria when it’s biologically active. PristineBlue goes a step beyond chelated products with its unique proprietary base product ET3000. Blended with ET3000 copper in PristineBlue is fully dissolved, biologically active and

added, “We are delighted that The Aman Spa at The Connaught has chosen PoolSan and the results speak for themselves. The pool has some beautiful metalwork around which was being damaged by the chlorine in the atmosphere. Aman resorts and spas are known for the truly luxurious experience they offer and changing from UV and chlorine to PoolSan has improved the water quality and swimming experience.”

can be added to water at a concentration high enough to fight algae and bacteria.

The copper (Cu++) used to formulate PristineBlue has two positive charges. The ET3000 molecule has a large number of negatively charged attachment points. One of each copper ion’s positive charges attaches to the ET3000, leaving the other positive charge biologically active to attract and combine with algae and bacteria. When algae and bacteria come into contact with the copper ion they absorb it and die off.
