QUALITY POOL COVER ‘STILL THE BEST SAFETY STATEMENT’

When the Crowther family of Burnham had a new swimming pool built, their first concern was to make sure that their two young children would be safe from accidents.

“We were looking for peace of mind,” they agreed.

young children out of the pool when not in use by completely ‘sealing’ the pool, which has the added benefit of keeping out debris. The cover reduces evaporation thereby helping to keep the pool warmer. The Mikado also comes with a motorised handle for ease of use. The benefits of swimming for those physically impaired is well known and this year, Golden Coast offers three easy-to-use disabled safety access hoists for domestic or commercial swimming pools or spas which have been introduced. All powered by 24-volt rechargeable batteries, the 300lb/136kg lift capacity low- profile ‘aXs’ unit provides a solution for simple pool designs, while the ‘Splash’ series has a higher lifting capacity at 400 lb/181.5 kg. Both units offer 360 degree rotation and can be removed from their deck anchor systems when not required.

Also available is the PAL (Portable Aquatic Lift) portable unit for commercial installations. Easily moved and operated by one person, this also has a 300lb/136kg lift capacity with a 240 degree rotation. All three units share many features including waterproof hand-held control units, footrests and seat belt assembly, along with a range of accessories.

Both the PAL and ‘Splash’ units have optional variations for facilities that have both in-ground pools and above-ground spas or above-ground pools and spas up to 48in/122cm above the pool deck. In addition, the reach of the ‘Splash’ can be extended for use where pools have an unusual gutter configuration that requires a longer reach to the water line.

POOLGUARD ALARMS OFFER REASSURANCE

Pool alarms are now a very popular and practical safety system offering reassurance to pool owners when a pool safety cover might not be in place. Safe Water Alarms stress the point that once a Poolguard alarm is installed in the pool it cannot be de-activated. It is always in the ‘alarm-ready’ mode. It automatically wakes up and runs a system test and will detect an intrusion similar to a one year old child weighing 18 pounds and up. The alarm, which has been tested to European standards, works on a 9-volt battery with a life of approximately one year. If someone falls in the

While a swimming pool can be one of the best investments that you can make for your children’s enjoyment and health it is also one that requires thought in terms of safety. “We went on the recommendation of our installer, Blue Water Pools of Bicester, who said a Coverstar should be our first choice seeing as safety was our first priority,” explained Mrs Crowther.

“Since the pool was completed, we have had a large amount of landscaping work done in the surrounding area and in the garden generally. What has amazed me is that whilst the house seems to be a lot dustier, when the cover is removed from the pool, despite being in close proximity to the building work, it is absolutely immaculate.”

The Crowthers chose a Flush Track, Recessed

pool an 85db horn sounds. It comes with an in- house remote receiver with a range of up to 200ft and comes with a 12 volt power supply that plugs into a wall socket.

New sensing technology provides less chance of false alarms due to wind, rain or small objects such as sticks or toys entering the water. It works with a pool up to 20ft x 40ft (800sq ft) and can be used with a pool cover. When you want to use your pool, you remove the alarm from the pool and put it into sleep mode.

MESH FENCE SYSTEM FROM H2OFUN H2OFun offer both Pool Guard Swimming Pool Fences and Plastica Rollaway Swimming Pool Fences to ensure safety around the swimming pool. Plastica Rollaway Swimming Pool Fence is AFNOR NFP90-306 approved.

Swimming pool fences, says H20 Fun, is the best form of a ‘passive protection babysitter’ any home with a swimming pool can have. “Installing removable mesh fencing can be a child lifesaver by protecting against accidental drowning of children, toddlers, baby and even pets. Removable mesh fencing can be temporary, is nearly transparent, protects your swimming pool better than an electronic alarm, and with aluminium construction, will be maintenance free for years. Pool Guard Fencing offers a durable mesh, available in black only. This mesh is the strongest manufactured in today’s market and is rip-proof, mildew-proof, fade and shrink-proof.” Pool Guard swimming pool fencing mesh is

Roller Coverstar as the new pool has a Roman End step which has to be completely covered. It is simple to operate via a key switch and when not in use, the key can be removed, preventing unauthorised operation and adding to the product’s safety.

“What we like about the Coverstar is that it is so easy to use – being automatic, it takes literally a couple of minutes at the most to uncover the pool,” adds Mrs Crowther. The New Aluminium Bench Housing has been popular with those customers wishing to retro fit a Coverstar. The main benefit is that the housing will not warp or crack like wooden housings and therefore lasts far longer.

manufactured with a black post every 36 inches for added strength.

Magna-Latch Lock, probably the world’s most famous safety fence gate lock is fitted with every gate.

Pool Guard swimming pool fences have removable sections so the fence can be partially removed in only a few minutes. However, we recommend pool fencing should never be taken down when children are present. “Swimming pool fencing is never a substitute for adult supervision,” says the company. spn
