Condition Monitoring and Lifetime Assessment for Wind Energy Generation


Renewable energy is forecast to grow from around 6% to over 30% of the UK energy portfolio by 2020 and wind energy is a major component of this target. With extensive investment in both Offshore and Onshore wind, the future is bright for UK companies with product and expertise in this arena.


However, the market offers some unique challenges in terms of maintenance and lifetime prediction. This event, organised by the Materials Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), reviewed the primary drivers and requirements for condition monitoring and lifetime assessment and sought to bring forward opportunities for innovative technology solutions.


Keynote presentations from a wide range of experts in the area were followed by opportunities for individuals to offer short presentations outlining their thoughts, innovations, technology offerings to the delegates and then engage in one to one discussion with a view to the generation of collaborative projects. Facilitated by the Materials KTN, these project concepts could then be progressed and routes to funding explored.
