FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK This is Pulse Magazine’s "Annual Art Issue" for 2010, and each year I
am impressed by the talent and sheer number of artists in our commu- nity. It is truly a subculture that is emerging from under the radar and becoming a major draw for this area.
Unlike the real estate boom, an
artistic Renaissance would be a much more stable foundation for SWFL, and I'm hopeful that this vision will soon become a reality! In addition to the inspiring artists featured on these pages, many tal-
ented artists contribute to Pulse on a regular basis. What we’ve found is that “artist” is a relatively broad term that covers individuals working in many mediums, not just the more traditional painter. Between the writ- ers, photographers and graphic designers, there is a whole lot of art going on! And then there is the art of editing a magazine… During the early years, I wrote the majority of editorial for the maga- zine and attempted page layout with mixed results! Not to mention being a big part of the sales team, distribution and everything else in between. Today, I describe my role as similar to that of a circus ring leader. I no longer wear all the hats, but I've certainly honed my craft of organizing it all and keeping each issue moving forward. A magazine is like a puzzle...how to fill the pages, organize the informa- tion, and present it in a way that's appealing, exciting, and relevant to readers. Of course, it has to be profitable too! Juggling clients, utilizing one’s social network to call in a last minute favor, and navigating every personality under the sun… yes, it's definitely an art! So I hope you enjoy this issue... it’s a true masterpiece!
