Grammy nominated performer, Ky-Mani Marley, remembers the moment when he realized he wanted to be a musician and performer. He had started writing and singing music as just a hobby when a friend told him that he had a great sound. When he was an adolescent, Ky-Mani wrote the hit song “Dear Dad” about his famous father, Bob Marley, who had died when Ky- Mani was a child.

One special memory he has about singing “Dear Dad” is when a man came up to him after his performance and said, “Ky- Mani, you saved my life”. He asked the man, “How did I do such a thing?” The man replied that his father had recently passed away and that he was contemplating suicide. While in his room thinking of how to end his life, something told him to press play on the stereo and the song “Dear Dad” happened to be playing. It brought the man to tears to listen to the heartfelt emotional song, and made him realize that life wasn’t so bad and that he wanted to live his life to the fullest.

Ky-Mani possesses a great humble energy that is contagious to those who are around him. His performance at the Lions Den in Fort Myers on the night of July 9th

, 2010 was emotional and

soulful. In the intimate venue, Ky-Mani let us hear some of the new music that he is working on for an evolution album.
