A phenomenon is taking place inside industrial warehouses in Naples and throughout Southwest Florida. WHERE!?HOUSE is an underground House Music movement started by J. C. Gutierrez and is literally shaking music fans. “The common denominator that overcomes everything else,” explains Gutierrez, “is the love of music and the art of knowing how to play it. WHERE!?HOUSE is having a profound and positive impact on the community by reviving the House Music genre and its scene in SWFL. Almost overnight, the words “House Music” are being tossed around from club to club and promoted as the main attraction of the night. Many local venues are taking on this genre of soft and yet deep grooves.

Even though many nightclubs have opened their doors to the House Music crowd, there will always be the need for a “True Underground Scene”, the one that takes place at warehouses with industrial fans and unpainted walls. Guests are informed of WHERE!?HOUSE parties only by word of mouth and social networking, staying true to this type of movement. For the PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity and Respect) lovers, there’s no need for VIP or valet

guests at WHERE!?HOUSE parties, JC Gutierrez has worked with some of the most accomplished bands in the entertainment business and is a DJ himself. An audio engineer graduate with four audio device patents, he has owned a thriving professional sound and lighting company for over two decades. Every now and then he embarks on different “related to his profession” projects with various nightclubs including distribution of pro-audio equipment, event management and more. “Naples was highly unattractive to me when I first was introduced to the area as a teenager since it did not paint a great future in my industry. This allowed me (unwillingly) to concentrate more on the business aspect of my career by not having the big city distractions. Nevertheless, every time I was in town and felt the urge to seek some action, I was less than two hours away from Miami. Trips to the east coast were an easy way to extend my stay in Naples and allowed me to meet more people, generate more contacts and leads, and slowly but surely warm up to this town”.

Gutierrez noted that he had the WHERE!?HOUSE idea for a few years, but it was pushed to the back burner because of his busy schedule. “‘Underground’ is a scary word in SWFL, especially to people over 45! I knew I had to think this one over and nail it on the head the first time. The minute I had an opportunity to dedicate some free time to this project, I started scouting for the right people to help me move forward. I needed individuals who shared my passion for the music and were in it for the thrill and love of the underground world, not for the money”. One of Gutierrez’s engineers, Benny Guevara, was an obvious choice as they had previously discussed the concept. He then approached local DJ, Yves Kabengele, to be in charge of promoting the event and becoming the front of the operation.

Other friends, including Kim, Andrew, Doug C, Corinne, and Derek, also gave their time and helped throughout the process, earning a spot at the August 21st WHERE!?HOUSE - DA’ HOUSE SHAKEDOWN event. At press time, this event was about to take place in an industrial area of Naples at a different and much bigger location. “The last WHERE!?HOUSE party reached full capacity by 1:30am and people had to wait outside to come in,” says Gutierrez. “We never expected such a huge turnout and clearly underestimated the number of fans who showed up. I apologize to everyone who couldn’t enter the building, but this next time we’re ready for all of you”!

parking, “no special treatment or luxuries” this scene is all about music and sound, peace and respect. Says Gutierrez about a recent WHERE!?HOUSE event, “These fans showed not only true respect for what they love and believe in by coming and going in absolute peace, but they also proved to the community that they are worth recognition and deserve the opportunity to organize their own events.

Music unites people of all ages, races and beliefs like no other music that I’ve ever experienced”.
