The Bushtukah Canada Day Road Races- 10K, 5K, and tot trot, July 1st
This family friendly race is in
its 24th year. The race starts at Earl of March High School and the course meanders through the streets of Beaverbrook. Local residents sit in their driveways and watch the runners pass by while they sip their morning coffee. On hot years they get the hoses out so runners can cool off. The race is well organized with markers

every kilometer, race shirts that look really Canadian so you can wear them to a Canada Day party later in the day, and a nice little snack at the school at the end of the race. This race has a special place in my heart because I PB-ed there last year but what I like most about it is the tot trot where the smallest of small toddle 100 metres to cross the finish line. Many of the little ones get distracted between the start and the finish, some turn around half way and go back to the start line, a few need a ride from Mom or Dad and some of them take off and leave their parents far behind. It’s a race like no other so if you go do stay for the tot trot, you are sure to walk away with a smile on your face. Face painting and a bouncy castle are also on-site for family entertainment. The race is organized by Run Ottawa Club –

there are plenty more to choose from. On June 25th there will be an attempt at a world record for the most runners in kilts
www.pertkiltrun.ca. Initiated by Terry Stewart as an event to celebrate Perth, Scotland’s 800th Anniversary. The race is full but you can still volunteer, and if you have hidden skills as a Bagpiper they are still looking for some to play along the course.
