A race for all: your pick!

Ottawa Race Weekend has
come and gone but there are still plenty of opportunities to get out there and get a PB (personal best) this summer. Why not try one of the smaller local races this month? Here are a couple of my favourites:
Emilie’s Run- women’s only 5K and children’s 1K, June 19th
Women’s running has come
a long way in the last 35 years. Women were not officially allowed into the Boston Marathon until 1972 and the first women’s Olympic Marathon was not until 1984. This year, 9773 of the 22672 finishers in the Boston Marathon were women. So why not celebrate with a race? This race along the aviation

parkway is fast and flat. How fast? Last year, of the 4278 women who completed the 5K at Ottawa Race Weekend, 7 finished in less than 20 minutes. At Emilie’s run last year, 33 of the 365 participants, finished in less than 20 minutes. Don’t worry not everyone is that fast: last year the final runner crossed the line in a little over 49 minutes. What makes this race so cool? You get chip times for every

kilometer so everyone you know can see how much you slowed down at the end of the race when they look you up on Sportstats (OK so maybe that is not such a good thing), this is an out and back course so you can watch those ever so graceful elites flying along the course, and it nice to run a race without the guys every once in a while.
