George G. Johnson Managing Director


George Johnson & Company George G. Johnson began his accounting career in 1966 with Touche


Ross & Company (now Deloitte & Touche), and in 1971 founded his own firm by acquiring the practice of Austin, Washington and Davenport, led by former Michigan Secretary of State Richard H. Austin.


George Johnson & Company, CPA, Detroit, specializes in the auditing of


non-profit organizations, employee benefit plans and government entities. It recently expanded to Ann Arbor and Chicago.


Mr. Johnson is very active in the community and serves on several boards,


including Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Zoo- logical Society, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and TCF Financial Corporation, Minneapolis.


He is a member of the advisory boards of the Black United Fund of Michi-


gan and Forgotten Harvest, and chairs the Richard H. Austin Scholarship Fund at Wayne State University.


Mr. Johnson is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan As-


sociation of Certified Public Accountants, Illinois CPA Society and the National Association of Black Accountants. He is a graduate of Wayne State University.


✦ Kwame Kenyatta Kwame Kenyatta was elected to the Detroit City Council in November of


2005 and currently serves as chairperson of the Neighborhood & Community Services Standing Committee after previously overseeing the Internal Opera- tions Committee. He formerly served as Wayne County Commissioner of the 7th District as well as member and vice president of the Detroit Board of Education. In addition to his other professional achievements he is the author of two books, “Burning Fire” and “Guide to Implementing Afrikan Centered Education.”


Evidenced by the support he has received from citizens throughout the


city of Detroit, Mr. Kenyatta has a long history of struggle and commitment to the community. He has directed and been involved in youth and neighbor- hood activities for over 25 years, helping to provide such key services as youth initiatives, anti-drug programs and assistance to senior citizens. In rec- ognition, he has received awards from the state, county and the city and has been asked to appear on local and national television and radio programs.


While his accomplishments have gained him the respect of many, he views himself as a plain and simple brother “trying to do something for his people.”


✦ Bill Luse


Client Unit Director Industrial Sector, IBM


Bill Luse, as client unit director, Industrial Sector, is responsible for key


Tier 1 automotive suppliers and industrial accounts in Southeast Michigan and Northern Ohio. He is responsible for sales and support of the full range of IBM’s information technology products, services, consulting offerings and business solutions for this customer set. He also serves as the IBM Senior State Executive and senior location executive for IBM in metropolitan De- troit.


After joining IBM in 1976 in Detroit, Mr. Luse progressed through a broad


range of positions in sales and marketing in the United States. Prior to hold- ing his current position, he was vice president of PC Sales for the Central United States. From 1988 to 2000 he held a number of positions including director of Integrated Marketing Communications - Americas; vice president, Software Sales - Great Lakes Region; consultant, Information Integration Technology; and new business sales manager, Kentucky and Ohio. He as- sumed his current position in May 2004.


Mr. Luse is very active in the community as a member of numerous boards including United Way


for Southeast Michigan, the Detroit Economic Club and 100 Black Men of Greater Detroit. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.


He is a graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in Marketing. He and wife Ursula and their three daughters, Monique, Brittany and Tiffany, reside in Farmington Hills.


✦ Tim Mackie Tim Mackie is the branch manager for AXA Equitable and has the overall


executive responsibilities for the Great Lakes Branch in Michigan and North- ern Ohio where there are over 200 financial professionals and 50 manag- ers/staff personnel. His career with AXA Equitable began in 1987 and he has been the recipient of several distinguished awards in reognition of his dedication, leadership and accomplishments.


Mr. Mackie is an active member of with Detroit Executive Service Corpora-


tion, National Association of Black Accountants, Booker T. Washington Busi- ness Association, Tuskegee Airmen, 102nd United Stated Colored Troops Re-enactment Group, and the Double OO Riders Association. He also served in the United States Air Force and retired at the rank of captain.


A lover for warm weather and the outdoors, Mr. Mackie enjoys horseback


riding and when time permits, he participates in strenuous adventure trips such as to the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert, which covers over 150 miles in six days, known as the toughest foot race on earth.


He also enjoys playing the saxophone, listening to jazz and participating in Civil War re-enactments


in his spare time. He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is married to his high school sweetheart, Karen. They have three children, Kwency, Wynston and Timme.


✦ Ray McCallum Throughout his basketball career, Ray McCallum earned a reputation of


achieving what many others thought to be improbable. As a player at Ball State University, he led his team to its first NCAA tournament. As an assistant coach, he helped guide a school to its first postseason tournament berth in nearly four decades. As a head coach he has turned around the fortunes of one program and is in the midst of turning around another.


He was a two time Indiana State Champion in high school. Graduating in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, he


was the all-time leading scorer in Ball State men’s basketball history. After serving as an assistant at Wisconsin and Michigan, he took over his


alma mater in 1993 and led them to an NCAA tournament and two NIT berths over seven years. While the head coach at the University of Houston, he led the Cougars to their first post-season tournament in nine years.


Currently the head coach at the University of Detroit Mercy, he orches-


trated a 20-win season in year two and the future only looks brighter. Mr. McCallum and his wife,.0 Wendy, have two children, Brittany and Ray Michael.


Lawrence C. Patrick Jr. Lawrence C. Patrick Jr. is a counsel to the Detroit law firm of Jaffe, Raitt,


Heuer & Weiss, P.C. where he specializes in school law. He has been a member of the Michigan Bar since 1975. He is the former president of the Detroit Board of Education, where he served almost seven years until his resignation in 1995.


Mr. Patrick has advised panels on education for major television chan-


nels. He is a long-standing member of the National and Michigan Council of School Attorneys. He has also testified before Congress on education reform. His views and ideas have been shared on CNN, “Good Morning America” PBS specials and “Nightline.” His opinions and speeches have been published in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today and the Washington Post. He is listed in “Who’s Who in Black America.” He is a nationally acclaimed legal expert, speaker and presenter on urban education reform issues.


His many years of public and charitable service includes his current ser-


vice as a member of the Cranbrook Science Institute Board of Governors and as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Black United Fund of Michigan.


Mr. Patrick is a native Detroiter who earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and psychology at


Wayne State University, receiving the David Mackenzie Honor Award for Academic Excellence and Community Service. He also earned a law degree at Harvard Law School where he won the Board of Governor’s Scholarship as well as the Dwight D. Eisenhower Scholarship.


✦ Rev. V. Lonnie Peek, Jr. V. Lonnie Peek Jr. is CEO of eBusiness Strategies, a Detroit management


consulting company. He is senior consultant to the chancellor of WCCCD. He is on the Executive Committee of the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity/ Chair of Public Relations Committee.


Mr. Peek serves on such boards as the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy,


New Detroit, Inc, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and Board of Visitors School of Social Work, WSU. He has been a political analyst on Channel 7 WXYZ and Fox-2 WJBK, writes a column for the Michigan Chronicle and has hosted various radio shows for more than 30 years.


As an ordained minister, he serves as assistant pastor at Greater Christ


Baptist Church and chaplain, Office of Sheriff, Wayne County. He holds a BS degree, a MSW from WSU, an MA in Biblical Studies, Ashland Theological Seminary. He was founder/ president of the Association of Black Students at WSU; served as department chair, Black Studies; director of Religious Studies; coordinator, Project M.E.N. (male mentoring) at WCCCD; associ- ate professor, School of Social Work at WSU; and executive assistant, Urban Affairs. for Gov. James Blanchard


He is married to Eunice Shaw Peek. They have four children: children, V. Lonnie III, Monique, Ki and Ricky. ✦

June 9-15, 2010 Anthony McCree Jr. Anthony McCree Jr. is a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) and


a principal at UHY LLP. Based in Southfield, Mr. McCree has extensive ex- perience in public accounting and currently provides professional services to privately-held and publicly-traded companies ranging from $12 million to $700 million in sales.


Prior to joining UHY, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for


over six years where he provided professional advisory services primarily to middle market companies.


Over the last few years, Mr. McCree has coached youth football within


the Detroit Public Schools and Think Detroit PAL. He also is treasurer and a director for Franklin-Wright Settlements, Inc. and a director and finance com- mittee member for Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. Additionally, he is a member of the National Association of Black Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Michigan Association of Certi- fied Public Accountants.


✦ Judge Wade Harper McCree After serving eight years at the 36th District Court, Judge Wade Harper


McCree was elevated to the Wayne County Circuit Court by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, on July 2, 2004.


Prior to becoming a judge, McCree was a trial lawyer with Lewis and


Munday, the largest minority owned firm in the state of Michigan. Judge McCree is a graduate of Cass Technical High School, the Univer-


sity of Michigan and Stanford Law School. In June of 2002, he concluded his term as president of the Association of Black Judges of Michigan. In addition to serving as a director on the boards of several community organizations, he is a devoted supporter of the State of Michigan’s Wade H. McCree, Jr. Incen- tive Scholarship, named after Judge McCree’s father.


An avid runner, Mr. McCree has completed the Detroit Free Press Inter-


national Marathon on three occasions and is an active participant in several other races in the greater Detroit area. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and in his spare time enjoys playing bridge.


Wade Harper McCree is married to the former LaVerne Siler and is the proud father of a daughter and son. ✦ Benny N. Napoleon Benny N. Napoleon, a lifelong Detroiter, graduated from Cass Technical


High School before entering the Detroit Police Academy in June 1975. He served in the DPD at every level of command and in numerous capacities including patrol, investigation, undercover and administration until his ap- pointment to chief of police by the Mayor Dennis Archer in 1998. He retired from the DPD in 2001 after 26 distinguished years of service. In 2004, he was named assistant Wayne County executive to help facilitate the administration of the nation’s 13th largest county. He served in that role until his appoint- ment to the position of Wayne County sheriff in July, 2009.


Career highlights include supervising the investigation leading to the swift


apprehension of 10 escapees from the Ryan Correctional Facility in Detroit; implementing a plan that prevented shootings on DPS campuses during his tenure as Chief; and drafting and implementing a crime reduction plan which led to an unprecedented 30 percent reduction in violent crime in the city of Detroit.


Mr. Napoleon holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctorate from the Detroit College of


Law. He is a licensed attorney, professor of criminal justice and the proud parent of Tiffani Napoleon, a recent U of M Graduate.
