product update | Machinery and equipment MULTI-COMPONENT Milacron adds to e-Multi

Milacron has announced a number of new additions to its E-Multi line of electric auxiliary injection units, including enhanced mounting options and improved control software. The mould-mounted E-Multi EM1

model now comes with an improved carriage and relocated spring pack that makes for a more compact installation and extends mechanical nozzle protrusion adjustment from ±5 mm to ±15 mm. The EM1 and EM2 models also now support sprue-break operation, allowing them to be applied for parting line injection. The larger E-Multi EM3 and EM4

TEMPERATURE CONTROL

RocTool focuses on cooling

Heat-cool moulding technology firm RocTool has introduced a new line of mould cooling units designed to provide optimal operation with its induction heating systems. The RocTool Perfor-

mance Cooling units have been designed specifically for use with the company’s heat-cool (variotherm) moulding techniques. The C2V model, for instance, allows the user to set the flow to a laminar state during induction heating of the mould, accelerating it to a turbulent state only during cooling when it is necessary to draw maxi- mum thermal energy away. ❙ www.roctool.com

56 AUTOMATION

Fanuc works with people

Fanuc claims that its CR35/A collaborative robot is the first 35kg payload articulated model designed to work alongside human operators with no safety guarding. The CR35/A is designed

to solve ergonomic challenges in manufactur- ing environments where humans would otherwise have to take on heavy lifting. It offers six axes of articulation and is designed to stop safely if it comes into contact with a person. “The Fanuc CR-35iA

collaborative robot allows shared workspace between an operator and the interactive robot,” says Greg Buell, FANUC America Product Manager. “The highly-sensitive

models can now be fitted with Milacron’s radial mount. This allows the injection unit to rotate from its normal position on the top of the stationary platen to a “parked position” to improve accessibility for mould change overs. Servo sprue break is also now standard. All E-Multi units ship with the

company’s latest V1.34 software, which includes automatic carriage calibration, safety ramp control for high-speed injection, standard integrated co-injection, and SmartMold communication. The new software also includes support for Milacron’s Varian Rotary Table. ❙ www.milacron.com

COLOUR DOSING

Simple liquid colour system

Riverdale Global has launched a new handling system for its liquid colorants that the company claims eliminates downtime or off-specification colour risk by automatically refilling drums during production. The RGInfinity auto-refill

system eliminates the need to replace drums when empty by refilling from a large central container. Each central container can serve one or multiple machines. “Besides preventing

downtime, the RGInfinity auto-refill system eliminates the time and labour required for operators to monitor colour levels, transport and prepare replacement drums, and wait until on-line drums are finally ready for replace- ment,” says Kevin Cabana, vice president of process

technologies. Riverdale Global is a joint

venture between Riverdale Color and Maguire and the

robot gently stops if it comes in contact with the operator, allowing the robot and human to work side by side.” The robot features a soft

foam green cover to provide further protection to human operators. ❙ www.fanuc.com

RG Infinity auto-refill system is an extension of its Sealed Color technology, which is designed to eliminate the potential complications of handling liquid colorants. Central to the technology is the proprietary “Pump in a Drum” design and gravimet- ric control, which holds colour-delivery tolerance to within 0.1%. ❙ www.riverdaleglobal.com
