KraussMaffei sold to ChemChina for €925m

German plastics machinery group KraussMaffei is to be acquired by China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) for €925m. It is the biggest acquisition of a German firm by a Chinese company to date. State-owned ChemChina is buying the KraussMaffei Group from Canadian private equity firm Onex, which acquired it in 2012. “With ChemChina, we have found a strategic and long-term oriented investor who has been interested in our company for many years,” said Frank Stieler, CEO of the KraussMaffei Group. ChemChina said its new acquisition - which includes the KraussMaffei, KraussMaf- fei Berstorff and Netstal brands – will retain its independence and identity. Current manufacturing locations will also be main- tained, with plans to increase headcount in 2016. “Together, ChemChina and

the KraussMaffei Group will be positioned for future growth,” ChemChina chairman Jianxin

ChemChina says KM production will stay in Munich

Ren said in a statement. Ren described the growth potential of the KraussMaffei Group as “tremendous” and said the firm would benefit from its improved access to the Chinese market. Stieler said a key target for

the company for the future was to further grow its activities in China, which he said currently accounts for a “low double- digit share” of its total sales. Its current injection moulding machine manufacturing opera- tion in China will be running at close to capacity by the end of this year, he said, so future

manufacturing investment is likely to be a priority. KraussMaffei Group employs 4,500 people globally (2,800 in Germany) and generated sales of around €1.1bn in the 2014 financial year. Stieler said the company was on course to hit sales of €12bn for 2015 and had recorded an EBITDA result of €140m over the past 12 months. ChemChina employs 140,000 people (95,000 in China). Sales for 2015 amounted to €37bn. ❙ www.kraussmaffei.comwww.chemchina.com
