MA Social Work
Endorsed by the College of Social Work, this challenging course will build on your life experience, social awareness, leadership skills and ability to deal quickly and effectively with complex situations, by equipping you with the advanced knowledge and critical appraisal skills that are vital for a career on the frontline of social services. With opportunities to put your learning into practice through two professional placements, you will develop the knowledge and skills to work in partnership with service users facing real-life challenges, while collaborating with multiple service providers in sectors such as education, health and probation services.
MODULES Initial Practice Learning Placement and Social Work Skills Social Work Knowledge and Application Research in the Social Sciences Law and Social Policy Final Professional Practice Placement Critical Approaches for the Life Course Epistemology Specialist Knowledge for Professional Practice Dissertation (option 1): Child and Family Social Work or Dissertation (option 2): Social Work with Adults
PG Dip/PG Cert Evidence Based Parenting Programmes
This course, the first of its kind, has emerged from our expertise in Evidence Based Parenting Programmes (EBPPs) in partnership with Save the Children. Aimed at practitioners who have experience of working with children and families and experience of supervising others in such a setting, you will learn supervision/leadership theories, practices and approaches embedded and associated with the successful delivery of EBPPs. You will be offered the opportunity of applying this knowledge within a ‘specific EBPP’ programme e.g. FAST, Triple P, Strengthening Families 10-14, as part of the course.
MODULES Exploring Evidence Based Parenting Programmes Professional Supervision for Public and Community Services Building and Leading EBPP Teams: Supervision and Leadership In Practice (PG Dip only)
Upon graduation from our MA Social Work, you will be eligible to apply to the HCPC to register as a qualified social worker.
