Postgraduate Guide 2016 Health and Education research at Middlesex
Our research: transformation through collaboration
Our School of Health and Education is a highly respected centre for international research, enhancing teaching practice, health, and social wellbeing around the world. Led by an exceptional team of professionally active academics and global partners, including the European Commission and UCLPartners, we enable students and staff to conduct investigatory research that makes an impact on mental health, midwifery, nursing, social work, education, translation and integrative medicine worldwide. Staff and students are currently
engaged in several major research and development projects including Addictions and Lifestyles in Contemporary Europe, Intercultural Education of Nurses in Europe, and RAINBOW HAS: Addressing the negative stereotyping and bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. We deliver Families and Schools Together (FAST) in the UK, which has been rolled out in 400 primary schools. FAST is an evidence-based progamme that engages parents and builds
effective links between schools and their local communities for the benefit of young people. Our newest research centre is the Centre
for Education Research and Scholarship. Led by Professor Paul Gibbs, it showcases existing research and nurtures the growth of new researchers through an active seminar, event and development program. We are members of the Schools Health and Wellbeing Research Network, part of UCLPartners academic health science partnership, which brings together our research in both education and health to inform practice and improve outcomes for young people in London. When it comes to all of our activity, collaboration is key, and our strong partnerships with local and international institutions provide exciting, rewarding collaboration opportunities for our research students. Our research excellence does not go unnoticed; the recent national assessment of quality (REF 2014) rated our social work and social policy fourth in the country for research power.
