A year in edtech

We’re taking a look back at the real edtech success stories of 2014. Cast your minds back to January, when MOOCs were the talk of the town. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have divided opinion in recent years. Some said they would transform higher education and enhance learning on a global scale, while others dismissed their value and labelled them as a fad. After my interview with FutureLearn chief Simon Nelson back in June, I got a real feel for the growing interest in the UK’s first MOOC provider and the new type of learners it atracts. But what else helped shape edtech in

2014? In this issue’s roundtable (p.17), we’ve spoken to some of the sector’s experts about the key technological

developments in education this year and how they changed the way we teach and learn. What do you think of the last 12

months in edtech? Was it BYOD, MOOCs, the flipped classroom or the computing curriculum that changed our schools and universities for the beter? I want to hear from you. Email rebecca.paddick@ wildfirecomms.co.uk with your views. Until next time,

Rebecca Paddick Editor
