ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Weidmüller’s PROeco switched-mode power supply units deliver high performance potential
ErP II
average efficiency calculator tool
deal Power have launched a new tool that calculates the average efficiency that an external power supply must conform with to meet ErP II, stage 2. This easy-to-use tool is extremely quick and at a engineers,
I glance, designers and purchasing
professionals can work out what average efficiency value the power supply of their application or product is required to meet.
By simply inputting an output voltage and
wattage, the calculator will use the official formula set by the 278/2009 ErP II compliance in the 2005/32/EC Directive, to provide the average efficiency rate required. Contact Ideal Power if you would like some help with ErP II efficiency or you have any general questions
regarding approvals and standards
related to power supply and conversion products. Ideal Power Ltd

ith the new PROeco switched-mode power supply units, Weidmüller presents reliable, power supply solutions that are
equipped with above average performance in an extremely compact, space-saving design. A high degree of efficiency and minimal no-load losses ensure low energy consumption and a long service life.
Whether used for automation technology purposes or in series machine construction, the PROeco switched-mode power supply units deliver high performance potential, flexibility and system
suitability in an extremely compact
design. Measuring from a mere 100 mm deep, they also ensure a high degree of efficiency and are extremely easy to service.
Thanks to their temperature protection, short- circuit strength and overload resistance, they can be used in virtually any application. PROeco switched-mode power supply units integrate extensive safety functions and can easily be combined with Weidmüller diode modules, capacity modules and UPS components to

ereward College, Coventry, assemble a redundant power supply. The
switched-mode power supply units of the PROeco series have proven themselves to be both robust and reliable.
Indeed, they work
in a wide temperature range, from –25 °C to +70 °C, and boast a high MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) value of more than 500,000 hours.
The compact design, with a max. depth of 120
mm, means that the PROeco power supplies require up to 50% less space and are therefore able to fit in very small cabinets. A high degree of efficiency of up to 93% and minimal no-load losses ensure permanently low energy consumption and a long service life.
Tricolour LED displays (on the front of the device for on-site
analysis) and an integrated
status relay (for remote monitoring) allow for rapid status diagnosis, with an advanced visual warning is issued at 90% rated output current. This makes it easier for users to analyse statuses and errors, both during commissioning and subsequent operation.

is a general Further
Education college that provides day and residential places to disabled and non-disabled students, including those with cognitive, physical and sensory impairments. The focus of the college is to provide a 24 hour curriculum, in an ability-inclusive environment, that promoting independence and individual independence. This can include the use of assistive technologies - including environmental control technologies - in the living and learning environments and KNX intelligent building technology has been implemented as the
platform for the environmental controls that help students to access the facilities and services that the college provides. Hereward has also made use of KNX for control of smoke detectors, presence detectors, such as bed occupancy pressure mats with a KNX interface, and IR based solutions.

Sinergy e-Tracker helps deliver ‘significant’ savings for police force
A
n initiative by Bedfordshire Police force to improve its energy efficiency has delivered a 25% cut in power bills in two years
through a mix of energy saving initiatives, including the use of a Marshall-Tufflex portable sub-metering unit. The force invested in the handheld Sinergy e-Tracker kWh sub-meter two years ago and since then it has toured the county’s police stations, operational bases and Kempston headquarters auditing energy use and highlighting areas of inefficient power use. Sinergy e-Tracker is a portable kWh meter allowing users to monitor incoming power supply, specific circuits/equipment etc to show the pattern of demand over an hour, day, week or month. The unit utilises non-invasive clip-on transducer (CT) clamps that are quick to install and do not require power being turned off.

uper Rod have used their extensive rod manufacturing experience to develop a non- conductive Polymer Rod Set, which, in addition to general cable routing tasks, can also be used to install cable in electrically sensitive areas, such as computer housings,
S data cabinets and
manufacturing equipment. As the Polymer Rod Set is an entirely moulded
product, it also benefits from a reduced price point, making it the ideal starter kit or tool box addition. The rods included in the set have varying degrees of flexibility,
whilst the range of polymer
attachments have a photo-luminescent pigment, which means they glow in the dark! Tom Walker, an electrician from South Wales, received one of the first Polymer Rod Sets. Commenting on the kit, Tom said: “I occasionally work in electrically sensitive areas, so it’s great to have access to a totally non-conductive cable installation tool.
