HAZARDOUS AREA EQUIPMENT PRODUCTS EXPLOSION PROTECTED WALL SOCKETS
The Crouse-Hinds division of Eaton has launched a range of explosion protected wall sockets with LED status indicators for use in Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 hazardous areas. The GHG51 series of wall sockets with
LED status indicators have an interlocking switch design and are protected by a high impact resistant, glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP) housing. The wall sockets offer high chemical resistance and high ingress protection (IP66), even in their plugged-in state. This is achieved by using a self cleaning, multi-lamellar contact design with low transition resistance. The sockets also provide full AC-3 switching capability according to EN 60947-3 standards. The Series 1 wall sockets are suitable for a range
of hazardous areas, including applications in chemical, petrochemical, onshore/offshore oil and gas, heavy duty/harsh environments,
renewable energy, power generation and wastewater treatment. The sockets are fully compatible with the
existing proven GHG51 series sockets. Permissible ambient operating temperatures are from -20°C to 40°C. However, wall sockets can be tailored to meet individual customer requirements, including versions with extended temperature ranges and voltages. The new Series 1 wall sockets enable the
connection and disconnection of electrical apparatus in potentially explosive environments, without the use of tools and without the engineer having to isolate the apparatus from the mains or

Enter 209 THE POWER OF THERMAL IMAGING
To help meet ATEX requirements, FLIR has introduced its new A310 ex, which is an ATEX compliant solution, with a thermal imaging camera mounted in an enclosure, making it possible to monitor critical and other valuable assets also in explosive atmospheres. Process monitoring, quality control and fire detection in potentially explosive locations are typical applications for the FLIR A310 ex. The FLIR A310 ex is ATEX certified (Verification Certificate ZELM
12 ATEX 0485 X) and can be installed in classification Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. The certification comprises the whole system which includes the enclosure as well as all components inside, such as the thermal imaging camera, heater and integrated controller. The flame-proof enclosure ‘d’ prevents any explosion transmission from the inside of the enclosure to the outside. The FLIR A310 ex is IP67 rated making it well suited to install in dusty environments. It also comes with a heater which effectively prevents fogging and freezing of the protection window. The integrated controller features several digital I/O channels and sensors for temperature, humidity and pressure. Among other functions, the I/O channels enable the user to switch on/off the camera and the heater via remote control. The access is accomplished through an integrated web interface or Modbus TCP/IP. The integrated controller is equipped with two fibre optic and two Ethernet ports. This enables a flexible network integration in star or ring topologies. The thermal imaging camera integrated in the FLIR A310 ex is the FLIR A310. The camera automatically sends analysis results, IR images and more as an e-mail on schedule or at alarm, acting as an FTP- or SMTP-client.

The new Han(R) Ex range of connectors from HARTING can be utilised in application areas with explosion protection requirements. This includes applications in mining and the chemical and process automation industries. The connectors are designed to meet
the intrinsic safety requirements for ignition protection class in explosion hazard areas classed as 1 and 2. The Han(R) Ex product portfolio offers complete connector systems consisting of housings and inserts, including housings made from an alloy that can be used in pulverised methane coal dust atmospheres. They also offer ignition protection class 65 in the mated condition. The termination technology used in
the Han(R) Ex is based on HARTING’s Han-Quick Lock(R) technology. This allows easy assembly without the need for special tools, and provides a vibration-proof contact for maximum safety in demanding applications.

Enter 211 CABLE ENTRY SYSTEMS FOR EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES
Selected products from the icotek cable entry systems available from M Buttkereit have been certified to comply with the EU Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX). The icotek range of cable entry systems are suitable for Zones G (gas) and D (dust) in equipment group II, category 2, certified to the ATEX directive. The specific icotek products now ATEX rated cover two sets of cable entry frames being the KEL ATEX and the KEL-ER ATEX. These are split frame systems which are utilised with varied split grommet inserts to accommodate both un-terminated and pre-terminated
cabling in a wide range of cable diameter options. Installations are vibration-proof with automatic cable strain relief provided to EN 50262. Four frame sizes are available in each range.
Cable entry plates include KEL-DPZ ATEX products in both rectangular and round options. The rectangular products cover cable diameters from 3.2 to 22mm and incorporate membrane sealing with IP65/IP66 rating as well as automatic strain relief. The round cable entry plates in the range cover the same standard cable sizes but with an immediate dual seal rating of IP68. They can be utilised for standard or metric cut-outs with polyamide locknuts also provided. A split cable gland assembly KVT 80 ATEX is also available, particularly
suited to routing and sealing pre-terminated cables with bulkhead thicknesses from 1.5 to 10mm. Where larger undetermined cable diameters need to be accommodated, then the KEL-DPF ATEX cable entry inserts can be utilised. These can also accept rigid pipework or cabling where angled entry needs to be accommodated.
