Sentinel helps to prevent limescale Sentinel Commercial’s scientifically proven solution to protecting commercial hot water systems from limescale, KalGUARD, has recently undergone a programme of development, making it easier to install and operate.

The innovative and cost-effective device uses electrolytic technology recommended by the Compliance Guide to Part L to permanently prevent limescale build up and boasts significant cost, energy and water savings over other limescale solutions, the company says. The updates include a simplified, intuitive user interface on the controller and a four line, organic LED display.

Usually specified in areas where the water hardness is 200ppm or more, KalGUARD can help protect both new and existing systems from limescale build-up. It permanently ‘conditions’ water by dosing it with a very low level of stable zinc via an electrolytic process that uses a zinc anode and a copper cathode. This forces naturally-occurring calcium carbonate crystals to form as soft, non-deposit-forming aragonite rather than into hard, deposit-forming calcite (limescale). Sentinel Commercial

Mikrofill delivers for village college Bottisham Village College first opened its doors in 1937 with the aim of providing a good quality education for local children by day and adults by night.

In the early days the college also served as the local picture house, concert hall and theatre.

The Cambridgeshire School has recently

benefitted from 2No Mikrofill condensing boiler packages to serve part of the main school and the sports hall/swimming pool area.

Mikrofill supplied numerous Ethos 70 and 130kW wall mounted boilers complete with cascade control systems, low loss headers including air/dirt separation and pressurisation packages.

The new equipment was installed by long standing Huntingdon based design and build contractor Blueflame Heating. Mikrofill

LG VRF at Aztec West in Bristol LG’s Multi V Heat Recovery VRF system has been chosen for the refurbishment of a 20,000sq ft two-storey glass front, office block building, 710 Aztec West in Bristol. The replacement air conditioning system has been designed and specified by consultant engineers Wye Solutions.

LG’s Multi V system met the tight performance specifications, the flexibility requirements and had the advanced system controls. Multi V offers high efficiency and zoned temperature control, reducing utility bills and saving time and cost on installation, due to LG’s HR boxes. The equipment selected, 2 x 26HP Multi V heat recovery condensers, are connected to 31 x high static ducted units. LG high static ducted units have a two thermistor control where the temperature is measured at the deluxe controller, as well as at the indoor unit, maintaining precise and accurate room temperatures, plus 3 x LG ecoV heat recovery ventilation units on both floors for the replenishment of fresh air.

Each floor is controlled by LG’s AC Smart centralised controller, which eliminated the need for a dedicated third-party Building Management System (BMS), thereby cutting further costs for BMS hardware and integration. LG

A complete range simplified To make life easier for its customers to access the solutions on offer, Marflow Hydronics has now categorised its product range.

The company found that customers were not always aware of the full range on offer to them. To help simplify the range, the firm has created four concise categories: Prefabrication, Pipeline Valves, Control Valves and Energy

Valves. There are many different products within each range, but each area can help customers decide what products might be best for them.

Joint managing director, Martin Lowe, said: “We strongly believe we can provide our customers with far more than they have realised to date, so we wanted to make our offering much clearer. We have an extensive range of products to help with water distribution system projects, and we can provide customers with complete solutions not just individual products.” To find out more information about all the products within each range visit Marflow Hydronics www.marflowhydronics.co.uk/looknofurther. ETI unveils new thermometer kit Electronic Temperature Instruments has introduced a Differential thermometer kit, which it says is ideal for plumbers and heating engineers. It allows the user to operate two type K thermocouple probes simultaneously. The display can be switched to show probe T1 or T2 temperature, or the difference between probes T1 and T2 (T1-T2). The units’ two thermocouple inputs make this thermometer ideal for HVAC applications including flow and return temperature measurements and radiator output checks. The thermometer measures temperature over the range of -99.9 to 299.9°C with a 0.1°C resolution or 300 to 1372°C with a 1°C resolution and features a custom, LCD display with °C, T1, T2, diff, hold, open circuit, low battery indication and a user selectable backlight. The unit will auto-power off after ten minutes, maximising battery life. Housed in a durable, ABS case, the thermometer has an integrated rubber seal to ensure complete water resistance and help reduce the possibility of damage in the field.

Each Differential thermometer is supplied as a kit, with two pipe clamp probes in a protective zip wallet. The kit is priced at £95.00 each (excluding VAT) ordering code 860-095. Electronic Temperature Instruments ☎ 01903 202151 www.etiltd.com

Save on travel with Hitachi To coincide with the introduction of its new high efficiency Set Free FSXN1E model Hitachi Air Conditioning Europe SAS has launched an exciting customer VRF promotion.

Customers who purchase any product from Hitachi’s Set Free VRF range between 1 September and 31 March 2015 will earn fuel or travel vouchers relative in value to the size of units purchased. For example, a 4HP unit is worth £40, a 10HP unit is £100 or a 18HP unit is £180.

Martin Richards, UK & Ireland national manager, said: “We know times are tough. As part of our aim to help our customers do more business, this promotion

Naco launches new storm louvres Naco, a brand of the Ruskin Air Management group of companies, has launched a new range of storm louvres providing the highest level of weather protection for buildings and plant in a shallower profile to ease fitting in a wide range of applications.

The DB50 range meets the most stringent test criteria for wind driven rain protection and provides ideal pressure drop performance, all within a shallow 51mm extruded aluminium frame that eases fitting in narrow window units and other restricted wall spaces. The optimum blade pitch minimises the penetration of wind-driven rain, reducing damage and additional operating expenses. The use of extruded aluminium reduces maintenance costs and provides high resistance to corrosion. Also, because it is such a slim unit it is quicker and cheaper to manufacture, making it one of the most competitive products available, but without compromising on performance. The new DB50 has been stringently tested to meet standards set by the industry’s international body the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA). Naco’s louvres have passed AMCA’s 500-L Wind-Driven Rain Penetration test and the performance specifications are verified by the association’s Publication 511. Ruskin Air Management

Fan shortlisted in Energy Awards Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon EKF Kitchen Box Fan has been shortlisted in the Energy Efficient Product of the Year HVAC&R category at the Energy Awards 2014, which takes place in London on 2 December. The fan is fully compliant with ERP2015 and also meets the new Part L Building Regulation requirements for low Specific Fan Power (SFP). Reliable and simple to install, it has been designed to offer professional kitchens a simple solution to both energy saving and regulatory compliance. It comfortably meets the requirements for kitchen ventilation systems, as set out in 2013 edition of the Non Domestic Buildings Compliance Guide. It incorporates a highly efficient long-life EC motor with an efficient backward curved impeller and an integral potentiometer that provides full manual speed control. These features reduce the Kitchen Box Fan’s energy and running costs by up to 44% when compared to AC motor fans with transformer speed control. Developed for kitchen extract systems the EKF Fan is deigned to operate continuously in elevated duct temperatures of up to 120°C. It has been designed specifically to accommodate energy efficient long-life EC motors to ensure running costs are reduced. Vent-Axia
