Project: Classic Motor Cars Bridgnorth Equipment: Four COMBAT CTUA 60, Two COMBAT CTUA40Six COMBAT HVE Fans Contractor: Heaters Wholesale

Classic Motor Cars has just opened its new 40,000sq ft premises in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. The new facility costing £500,000 was designed for the restoration and sale of classic, high end motor vehicles. The design of the equipment was to achieve the highest efficiency levels possible, as well as provide the company with an aesthetically pleasing system.

Due to the sophisticated design of the vehicles, it was also important that the equipment mirrored that style. Heaters Wholesale used Roberts Gordon COMBAT CTUA range of suspended warm air equipment consisting of two COMBAT CTUA 60 in the body shop, two COMBAT CTUA 60 in the trim area and two COMBAT CTUA 40 in the customer showroom.

The sleek, white design of the unit heater complemented the immaculate décor of the new building. In order to achieve higher levels of efficiency, the design included six COMBAT HVE fans. Roberts-Gordon Europe

SANHA launches new catalogue SANHA has released its latest product catalogue for 2014/15 where its extensive range of conventional soldered, threaded and welded fittings can be viewed in one location, alongside the fully developed push and press fittings. There are 252 pages of detailed product information and applications of use, available in electronic and printed format. Every page is filled with comprehensive information on products detailing fields of application through to properties of the systems and operational conditions.

The online catalogue is easy to navigate for use through a detailed index and effective application overview making searches quick and simple.

With its own research, development and manufacturing facilities in Germany, SANHA has an unparalleled record of innovation. The latest significant project involved five years development work to produce a range of safe and reliable press and threaded fittings manufactured from a patented copper alloy that is 100% lead-free. These lead-free components comply with new legislation aimed at reducing the levels of lead permitted in European drinking water. Contact SANHA to receive a complimentary copy at uk@sanha.com.

M1G boosts energy efficiency Sabien Technology has developed the M1G, a new retrofit control technology designed to reduce the operating costs of direct-fired water heaters. Field trials in office and hotel applications have shown average energy savings of 12% with payback periods ranging from 1.4 years to 1.6 years.

The fully adaptive M1G reduces energy costs by differentiating, in real time, between a genuine demand for hot water in the building and the short cycling caused by firing simply to replace standing heat losses.

When an attempt to ‘short cycle’ is identified, the M1G’s software and algorithms will identify it and prevent the burner from firing. If there is no genuine demand after 15 minutes, the M1G allows the water heater to fire to its designed temperature settings. If at any point during the 15 minutes there was a sudden demand for hot water the M1G would instantly recognise this and allow the water heater to fire.

The M1G uses a completely new approach to the control of direct fired water heaters which has led to its recognition in the RBS Innovation Gateway shortlist operated by the 2degrees network. Sabien Technology

Hybrid water heater range unveiled Lochinvar has launched the EcoCharger ‘Hybrid’ range of water heaters. The heaters provide the end user with a closely integrated combination of solar thermal and conventional gas-fired water heating that minimises fossil fuel use and achieves very high operating efficiencies (96% gross) and low NOx emission levels (Class 5).

The HWH and HWHC hybrid units work with the company’s high efficiency

LSP20+ flat plate collectors to provide a highly efficient integrated gas-fired and renewable energy water heating system. All models include a built in solar control to maximise the available solar energy and the gas burner only fires if the solar energy cannot keep up with the hot water demand.

There are seven models in the HWH range which can provide hot water recovery from 540 to 2,100 litres per hour. The HWH models are designed to work in conjunction with pre-heat storage vessels and storage capacities ranging from 300 to 2,850 litres are available. All HWH and HWHC models incorporate controls allowing the energy gain from the solar array to take priority ensuring that the end user gets maximum benefit from the solar thermal installation. New EC fans exceed ERP 2015 rules The upcoming changes to minimum efficiency regulation rates of ErP 27/2011 – 2015 mean that commercial fans in the EU marketplace will soon require a much higher minimum efficiency if the input power is between 125W and 500kW. In response to this, Airflow has launched a range of compact, high efficiency driven EC commercial fans that use up to 80% less energy than their AC fan predecessors. The new low energy EC Single Inlet fans achieve volume airflow from 83l/s to 115l/s and have significant pressure development on the largest model. High FMEG levels ensure they are fully compliant with updated regulations.

Made from mild steel with a robust coating to finish, each fan casing is fitted with an outlet flange, with fixing holes for easy installation.

Airflow’s larger offering of Double Inlet high efficiency EC fans are also engineered for significant benefits in performance and pressure, and are specifically designed for applications where low noise levels and/or space is an issue. The range achieves from 165l/s to 1200l/s and over 700 Pascals. Airflow Developments

YHA finds biomass accommodating As part of its ongoing programme to make wider use of renewable energy sources, the Youth Hostel Association (England and Wales) – the YHA – has installed Hoval biomass boilers at its head office in Matlock and its recently refurbished hostel at Pen Y Pass, Snowdonia. In both cases consulting engineers Peace Marsh Associates specified a Hoval UltraGas condensing boiler to be used as back-up and to meet peak loads with optimum efficiency.

Three ageing gas-fired boilers at the head office in Matlock needed to be replaced and Peace Marsh Associates suggested introducing biomass. A 110kW BioLyt biomass boiler has been supplied, combined with an UltraGas condensing boiler and a thermal store, all located in a specially constructed external plant room. As well as improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions this installation acts as a reference site for hostel managers who want to understand more about how biomass heating might work in their facilities. At the Pen Y Pass hostel four elderly oil-fired boilers have been replaced with a 160kW BioLyt biomass boiler and a 150kW UltraGas LPG boiler as back-up. This zero-carbon biomass upgrade has therefore eliminated the hostel’s reliance on heating oil. Hoval ☎ 01636 672711 www.hoval.co.uk www.peace-marsh.co.uk

Fire dampers meet marine demand Demand for specially designed fire and smoke control products for the maritime and offshore industry is gathering pace. Actionair, a brand of the Ruskin Air Management group, is seeing considerable interest in its range of A-60 marine dampers built in its factory in Whitstable, Kent as the international maritime industry continues to thrive. The dampers are available with galvanised casings and 430 grade stainless steel blades or, as an option, in 316 grade stainless steel casings and blades. They satisfy the rigorous corrosion resistance and vibration control standards required by all international maritime testing agencies. They are corrosion tested to BSEN 60068-2-52 (severity 2 conditions) and vibration tested to BS EN 60068-2-6.

The A-60 is ideal for dry filtered air and is tested and approved for fitting to class A-60 divisions (bulkheads and decks), when suitably insulated. The A-60 damper has undergone extensive fire testing in single and multiple arrangements.

Actionair recently supplied more than 150 of these dampers to the largest and most expensive private yacht in the world. Ruskin Air Management
