Heckmondwike FB launches schools’ carpet competition

Berkhamsted deploys Meru wireless to support 1,400 mobile devices

One of Britain’s premier independent schools has deployed a Meru Education-grade (MEG) WiFi network to support 1200 staff and students using 800 school- owned and 600 student-owned mobile devices. Berkhamsted School in Hertfordshire deployed the Meru

network throughout its historical campus and buildings – some dating back over 470 years – forming the backbone of its investment in 21st century teaching and learning technology “Dealing with our unusual locations would be

demanding for anyone, let alone a wireless provider, yet the WiFi delivers first time, every time,” according to David Pacey, IT director at Berkhamsted. Mark Steed, principal at the school, adds: “The big revolution

in education is mobile – mobile devices are transforming the way we learn and the way we teach. We used to collaborate by talking on the bus home, now we collaborate using mobile devices. The principles are the same, but the technology is different.” Berkhamsted joins more than 2,000 schools in

UK and Ireland using Meru MEG solutions. W: www.merunetworks.com

Following on from the huge popularity of last year’s competition, Heckmondwike FB, the UK’s leading manufacturer of fibre bonded carpet and tiles, is delighted to announce its new Carpet for Schools competition is now open for entries. Heckmondwike FB is giving schools, academies

and colleges across the UK the chance to win 100sqm of Supacord carpet or 75sqm of carpet tiles, including free fiting up to a value of £1,000. Abby Chandler, Heckmondwike marketing manager,

explains: “We had a fantastic response from schools and colleges last year to our competition, so we are really excited about launching it for 2014. It is a great way for us to enhance our relationships in the education sector.” The competition received an overwhelming response

last year, with over 350 entries, with the Cooper School in Oxfordshire selected at random to win the superb prize. Supacord is a very popular flooring choice in

the education sector as its tough, fibre bonded construction means it is strong enough to withstand heavy footfall, while retaining its appearance.
