Architects create BREEAM 'Excellent’ research facility using Equitone

Equitone [natura] and [textura] from Marley Eternit have helped create the award-winning BREEAM 'Excellent' research facility at Swansea University. The Institute of Life

Science building (Phase 2), won the BREEAM Wales Award thanks, in part, to Marley Eternit's Equitone architectural fibre cement facade material. An Equitone fibre cement facade met the BREEAM

criteria because it can contribute to an A+ rating as defined in the BRE Green Guide to Specification based on generic rating for autoclaved fibre cement single sheet. Powell Dobson Architects also specified the material

because of its aesthetics, which addressed the challenging brief: to deliver a sustainable building whilst working within the constraints of an environment which is suitable for clinical research and trials facilities. Equitone [natura] in Charcoal and Cool Grey was the

predominant material used on the facade because it created a striking visual appearance. Equitone [textura] in Sand and Egyptian Blue was chosen for recessed elements within the facade and a number of feature walls.

As well as being a user of both 3Sys and PASS from MIS specialist WCBS, The King’s School is also taking advantage of the company’s webALUMNUS product for its alumni management. Founded in 1541 by Henry VIII,

The King's School based in Chester is one of the leading co-educational independent schools in Cheshire and the surrounding area. With 974 pupils, the school is divided into three independent departments: Juniors, Seniors and Sixth Form. The school runs an active alumni

association called Chester Association of Old King’s Scholars (COAKS) that was founded in 1866 and has over 3,000 active members.

Moving to a new system In the past, The King’s School relied on a number of databases but since moving to a new alumni management system from WCBS they have realised a range of benefits. Liz Gwyther, development officer at

The King’s School, says: "We used to rely on different spreadsheets to manage alumni data, but this was very time-

King’s School saves time on alumni management “webALUMNUS saves us the

equivalent of a week’s work for each reunion we organise. Members can also update their own information, which reduces additional time.”

Careers guidance Liz adds: “WebALUMNUS also helps us to support our annual careers day, where we invite ex-pupils to visit the school and provide advice and guidance on particular professions. Using the system’s sophisticated search facilities, it is straightforward to invite the relevant people to atend.”

consuming and didn’t give us the ability to extract information based on multiple criteria. With webALUMNUS (from WCBS) it’s easy to pull off information and it gives you an extremely powerful search facility. This enables us to really fine-tune our events for specific interests. For instance, you could search on former pupils from a particular year, those that live in the North-West and those that were members of specific clubs such as rowing or music.

Summary of key benefits ✥ Significant administrative time- savings - a week for every event ✥ Sophisticated search facility supports tailored contact with alumni members ✥ Self-service updating of information for alumni ✥ Ensures high quality of database information ✥ Supports careers guidance for existing pupils
