EDUCATION I N D E P E N D E N T

T O D A Y I’ve been privileged to be editor of this rather wonderful magazine for a year now. In that

short time it’s been comprehensively overhauled, redesigned and fattened up. Its website has become a relevant and buoyant voice in the independent education sector, with a massive uplift in visitor figures to match. And now, to round off an exciting 12 months, I’m delighted to deliver IET’s first supplement, devoted to and unashamedly banging the drum for all things sport related in private schools. Do enjoy it – and pass it on to your school’s director of sport once you’ve finished with it! In this month’s magazine, money is the recurring theme. We’ve got a major report on how the private sector continues to survive, or on occasion flourish, in the teeth of the recession (page 14) and, best of all, another insightful piece from Hilary Moriarty (page 10) which argues that, yes, school fees are worth paying, but that

schools need to up their game to justify them. Wise, and hilarious. Happy reading. Dave Higgit , Editor
