IET Education 5-19 programme
IET Faraday – bringing science into the classroom
The IET plays a key role in UK engineering education. IET Faraday is our flagship programme for schools and includes:
Faraday teaching resources – these are cross-curricular classroom activities with accompanying film clips, multimedia interactives and downloadable supporting files such as PowerPoint presentations and handouts that can be tailored to the needs of students.
Faraday Challenge Days – these are activity days delivered in schools by our contractors as part of a year- long competition. Six teams of six students research, design and make prototype solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems, with the top team winning a prize for themselves and a trophy for their school. Each year we offer a limited number of free opportunities to Academic Partners to enhance their schools outreach by hosting Faraday Challenge Days. Universities invite students from local schools to take part, with the assistance from the University’s own engineering students. This is a great way to inspire people about engineering and give them a view into undergraduate life at your university.
DIY Faraday Challenge Days – should you wish to run your own IET Faraday Challenge Day we’ve put together all of the information required for educators to run their own as a set of downloadable resources (teacher and student packs) available from the IET Faraday website.
