IET Education 5-19 programme

FIRST® FLL®

LEGO®

League (FLL®

)

is a global science and technology competition aimed at encouraging an interest in real world issues and developing key skills. Working as a team young people aged 9 to 16 years explore a given topic and plan, program and test an autonomous robot to solve several missions. Since the IET became the Operational Partner for FLL®

in

the UK and Ireland we have opportunities for Academic Partners to become regional tournament hosts for this competition – giving the next generation of engineers and scientists first-hand experience of university life. Full training and resources are provided by the IET.

Here are just some of the benefits:

n Building strong links with local educational organisations

n Promoting your organisation in the region

n Promoting your university course and university life

n Opportunities for staff to act as role models and mentors for the young people

n Contributing to developing staff skills.

Volunteering support

Your students can also develop their employability skills by volunteering with activities run by the IET or our Partners. We work with STEMNET to encourage and support members to engage in educational activities by becoming STEM Ambassadors. Opportunities range from one-off activities such as acting as a judge for an engineering competition to longer term commitments, like mentoring a team of students participating in Greenpower or F1 in Schools activities.

We support local schools liaison by member through provision of training and supplying literature and hands-on activities for classroom intervention, science festivals and careers fairs.
