Book your place at the SHD Logistics Awards
With less than a month to go before the presentation of the inaugural SHD Logistics Awards, those who wish to attend and haven’t yet booked a place at the Park Lane Hotel on 20th March are encouraged to do so, as the event is approaching a sell-out.
Awards has attracted considerable interest, and we expect there to be no more seats or tables available very soon. With a high-quality line-up of finalists, and interest in the event coming from across the industry, the 20th March promises to be a

The nominations for the International Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) Award 2014 are in. The jury of international journalists – including SHD Logistics’ editor Peter MacLeod – has chosen 11 trucks and solutions from Crown, Jungheinrich,
Still and Toyota for the final round from all the entries.
Newly-developed trucks, trucks that represent further developments or special models with significant technical improvements that have come onto the European market since December 2012
were eligible for the award. “Not everyone has what it takes for
IFOY,” says Anita Würmser, chair of the IFOY jury. “Only the best rise to the challenge of the tough selection process, and only the very best trucks and solutions are nominated.” Which trucks are ultimately chosen for the IFOY Award 2014 will depend in large measure on the results of the
IFOY Test, which all nominated trucks have to undergo over a period of one week in the trade fair grounds of Deutsche Messe AG in Hannover. The IFOY Award will be presented in cooperation with CeMAT on 19th May in Hannover during the opening of the intralogistics fair. n

Prologis is to launch a third speculative shed development, this time a 340,000 sq ft facility at Grange Park, Northampton. The move follows the acqusition of a 19-acre parcel at the site from a joint venture between British Airways Pension Fund and Evander Properties. Grange Park, which is close to Junction 15 of the M1 motorway, is home to two existing Prologis facilities totalling 328,000 sq ft, both of which are fully let. Andrew Griffiths, managing director, Prologis UK, said: “There is a shortage of new facilities in this size range around Northampton and the wider East Midlands region, and we are delighted to have secured the Grange Park site. This is the only location with planning consent
in the town for a large footprint building that is ready to start on site; we anticipate that the new building will attract a high level of interest from both existing and potential customers.” Meanwhile, IM Properties is considering speculative development around Birmingham as the city’s supply of good industrial floorspace begins to dwindle. IM Properties – which already risked two speculative units of 169,000 sq ft each at its Birch Coppice business park, Tamworth – says it has spotted a market opportunity.
Director Richard Lawrence said: “The shortage of sites is leading us to consider speculative development in this area. It is a strong possibility.” n
