Fork Lift Trucks New Product

Rugged range

Jungheinrich has announced it is to unveil at CeMAT a new generation of IC- powered fork lift trucks, promising above-average throughput rates and low fuel consumption.

A

t an event in Munich – which also included a tour of its highly impressive new VNA plant in Degernpoint and a visit to its

new European Parts Distribution Centre at Kaltenkirchen – Jungheinrich made a series of announcements to the world’s press ahead of May’s CeMAT trade fair in Hannover. At the heart of the event, we had the opportunity to get up-close with Jungheinrich’s two new series of internal combustion engine-powered counterbalance fork lift trucks, which will be shown to the public at CeMAT in May. The new hydrodynamic torque converter- drive trucks in the DFG/TFG 316-320 and DFG/TFG 425-435 model ranges handle payloads of up to 3.5t with maximum stacking heights of 7.5m. All the trucks are powered by robust industrial engines from Kubota, with the power output deliberately derated to below 37kW to automatically achieve Tier IIIa emission regulations. Marek Scheithauer, head of product management of IC-powered counterbalanced trucks at Jungheinrich, says the new generation of trucks show a consumption saving of 9% with no sacrifi ce to productivity. He continues: “These robust trucks boast high-grade, extremely durable, long-lifetime components and are ideally suited for extreme, tough operations in different climate zones.” With the counterweight on the new stacker now an integral part of the load- bearing chassis, and the steering axle integrated in the counterweight, ther resultant

outstanding stability and makes the need for additional, electronic stabilisers redundant. Scheithauer adds that “this translates into high dynamic driving stability and ensures outstandingly good safety characteristics, both when stationary and on the move”. The proprietary Jungheinrich transmission shaft in the new torque converter features an integrated non-wear wet multi-disc brake, meaning high reliability in harsh conditions and virtually zero service costs. Thanks to the use of rugged components and maximum use of common components, servicing is fast, easy and economic, offering high levels of uptime. An electric parking brake is standard across the range.

Considerable design focus has been paid to the operator’s compartment and seat. A slim steering column offers greater leg room, with Scheithauer using words such as space, comfort, adjustability, ease of operation and light when describing the cabin. A new mast design ensures improved view of the payload, forks and general working area. “Good all-round visibility is not only conducive to relaxed yet concentrated and safe truck operation, but also to higher handling turnover rates,” concludes Scheithauer.

New models in the 5-series will be revealed later this year to complete the range.

NEW SYSTEMS DIVISION

Jungheinrich also announced at the press event that it has consolidated its Logistics Systems Business into a single unit under

the name of Jungheinrich Logistiksysteme GmbH. The new subsidiary brings together the previously separate divisions of Logistics Systems and Warehouse and System Trucks and will run the fi rm’s worldwide activities from its Moosburg base.

Richard Brandstetter, previously head of the Logistics Systems division at Jungheinrich, has been appointed the new director of sales as well as general manager of the new subsidiary. Dr. Stefan Binnewies,

previously head of controlling at Jungheinrich AG in Hamburg, has been named director of fi nance. Bernd Tüshaus, who remains in charge of the Moosburg plant, will serve in a dual capacity as director of engineering at the new company. “This step means we can consolidate our logistic systems expertise into a single organisation and position ourselves even better in the marketplace as a provider of complete intralogistics solutions,” declares Brandstetter. Jungheinrich is anticipating a further global increase in demand for logistic systems – albeit with varying emphasis. “Whereas in Europe the need for cost optimisation is the key driver of complete logistics solutions, companies in growth markets like Asia are focusing on expanding their logistical infrastructure,” says Brandstetter, adding that the company was anticipating strong growth for complete logistics solutions particularly in Asia, but also in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and South America. n
