COMMENT
Later this month the curtain rises on the inaugural SHD Logistics Awards. I hope to see many of our readers on 20th March. I have to say, being involved with the judging process has been a fascinating experience. As you can imagine, I receive a lot of material from businesses keen to be featured in the pages of SHD Logistics magazine. Most of this is very strong, relevant material, which I would include at the drop of a hat. However, the size of the magazine is finite, so I am in the privileged position to be able to select which of the submissions in my opinion is the best. I’ll come back to this particular point a little later. To sit alongside a panel of judges of the quality of those selecting the winners of the SHD Logistics Awards gave me the opportunity to learn how the experts viewed the array of case studies submitted to the Awards. Some of the entries which on the surface looked respectable to me had holes torn in them by the judges. Others, which had perhaps not been presented in the best light, were analysed and their strengths brought to the fore. At the end of the process, I came away with the satisfaction that the best possible entry in each category was a worthy winner, and that the best possible category winner was chosen as the outright winner. Whilst conceiving the idea of the SHD Logistics Awards, we wanted to ensure that the judging process would withstand scrutiny; I’m delighted to say that’s what we have achieved.

SHD is editorially independent, and does not levy a charge for ‘colour separations’. The views expressed in this publication are not necessarily those of the editor or publisher.
Going back, then, to the point I was making about too much material being submitted to SHD Logistics magazine, we have come up with a way of including more material than the print process allows by adding extra pages in the SHD Logistics app. So, those who have downloaded the app already will not only receive the magazine first – it is published as soon as the files are sent to the printers – but will also see additional pages woven in amongst the pages destined for the printed version. In addition, we have also included this month some video content, supplied to us by contributors to the magazine. On the app version, activate the ‘play’ logo when you see it sitting on an image, and a video will show you more than you would get from the written word. I hope you appreciate and value the efforts we make to enhance your reading experience. Publishing is a very interesting sector to be in at the moment, and we believe we’re only at the start of a massive revolution.
